Sources of valid knowing or knowledge vary between Indian schools of thought. Buddhism has just two; reason-based inference and direct perception of the senses. Although I think the latter can be expanded to include yogic direct perception.

Any other notion, dream, insight or vision that we have, needs confirmation by a wise guru to say whether there is any truth in them or not.
One should refrain from biased judgments and doubting in fathoming the Buddha and the Dharma of the Buddhas. Even though a dharma may be extremely difficult to believe, one should nonetheless maintain faith in it. Nagarjuna
