Hi,

I am re-posting what I had posted in another forum. Hope somebody could help me around here :)

What is the Seed Syllable of Chandraprabha Bodhisattva ?

http://www.onmarkproductions.com/html/nikko-gakko.shtml

The above link shows the Siddham Character 'ca' but transcribes in as 'sha'.

Also,

http://www.siddham.org/yuan_english/man ... antra.html

Siddham.org has Dharanis (apparently back translated from chinese) for Suryaprabha and Chandraprabha ? Is there a proper sanskrit version of those dharanis ?

Suryaprabha

namo buddhā kuṇami
namo dharma mahati
namo saṁgha tayāṇi
tira bhūbi satvadaṁ
nama dabha svāhā
namo rāgaye sarva satabaṇiddha rāṣaṁrā svāhā

Candraprabha

namo saṁdheti
tusūṭha
āmiti
ūtūṭha
saṁkaiṭha
palautiyemijaṭha
ūtūṭha
kaulātaiṭha
kaimoṭha svāhā

Clearly perceiving [him] to be eternally serene, I go for refuge [in him]

The bīja is ca, the first letter of Candraprabha.

The common mantra of Candraprabha is:

namāḥ samanta-buddhānām candraprabhayā svāhā

:thanks:

The Mantra is starting with NSB, Supposedly it must be Esoteric.

What about the Dharanis for Candraprabha & Suryaprabha?

Are the Dharanis quoted at siddham.org correct ?

Very Glad to see you at Dharmawheel after a long hiatus from the other forum :woohoo:

Both of the dhāraṇīs seem to come from this Chinese translation:

日光菩薩月光菩薩陀羅尼 The Dhāraṇīs of Sūryaprabha and Candraprabha (Taisho. no. 1160)

Sūryaprabha:
T20n1160_p0660b08║南無勃陀瞿(上聲)那(上聲)迷(一)南無達摩莫訶
T20n1160_p0660b09║[3]低(二)南無僧伽多夜泥(三)底(丁以反)哩部畢(四)薩
T20n1160_p0660b10║(僧沒切)咄(登沒切)擔納摩(五)娑婆(二合)訶(六)

Candraprabha:
T20n1160_p0660b18║[5]深低帝屠蘇吒(一)阿若密[6]帝烏都吒(二)深耆
T20n1160_p0660b19║吒(三)波賴帝吒(四)耶彌若吒烏都吒(五)拘羅帝
T20n1160_p0660b20║吒[7]耆摩吒(六)娑婆訶

There is no known Sanskrit text extant for these as far as I can tell at the moment. It's difficult to say what the Sanskrit was from the Chinese transliterations.
