Pagchen (Bagchen): Anyone know how to play?

Postby DGA » Fri Jun 27, 2014 8:29 pm

This may be the most baroque and strangely beautiful domino game I have ever seen. I've been interested in learning it since I first heard of it in the late 1990s.

The Shang Shung Institute also has a book on this game (Pagchen Rules and Basic Strategy). Chogyal Namkhai Norbu has taught it to some students, and there have been Pagchen groups at some Dzogchen Community centers; I don't know if this is still happening.

Anyone play this game or know how? is there a web-based version, or an app for it? Ideas on where to find the tiles for it?

thank you...

Any takers on this? Surely I'm not the only one who thinks Pagchen might be of interest...

Yes, I do. But I don't play much anymore, It was a big fad in the community, now replaced by Modern Tibetan Dancing.

The very meaning of the Tibetan term Dzogchen, "Great Perfection," refers to the true primordial state of every individual and not to any transcendent reality.

My timing is awful, then, because I'm just not geared for those dances, while I appreciate ChNN's enthusiasm for them.

Sign me up for the board game committee.

There's been interest expressed in starting something like a Pagchen study group or play group, whatever the right word might be. Working Group for Pagchen Play. If anyone might like to jump in, please say so, and we'll try to figure out a way for those of us who don't know anything about this game but might like to learn to maybe learn something and have some fun.

You know I'm game for the game! :) How would we do it, though? I know nothing about it, but I do have the booklet and tiles. I would imagine something like Skype would be helpful to learn?

Bump.

I think the best thing now would be for an enterprising programmer to develop a mobile app for it. I'd buy it.
