If i don't beleive in reincarnation can I still gain benifets from compassion meditation?

can you seperate the practice from traditional beliefs?

naptime, Reincarnation is a Mahayana concept, and specifically, may be found in Tibetan Buddhism, but here again, it seems reincarnation is a phenomenon confined to elevated Lamas and those who are considered Enlightened.... Hoi Poloi, even in Mahayana, are as subject to rebirth as much as anyone else. Reincarnation seems for the gifted and privileged few....
