"Afflictive emotions require a fixed target, seemingly real and true, self-existent, and autonomous. When destructive emotions take the scene, it becomes all the harder to see that the situation is dependent on a multitude of interrelated circumstances, whereas in the absence of lust and hatred this is much easier to see.
Nothing happens based just on a single condition.
Since the truth is always embedded in a vast network of conditions, the broader your outlook is, the greater the possibility of success at constructing something positive or undoing something negative. When we attempt to fix a problem without this broad outlook, we create a lot of trouble for ourselves and others."
