Friend or Foe.

Postby tellyontellyon » Sat Jan 18, 2014 7:11 pm

I'm not sure the Friend or Foe option is all that, um, friendly.
I might be tempted about marking someone as a friend, feel a bit uncomfortable about the 'Foe' option. Whats that for?

"Foe" will hide their posts. It may seem unfriendly (ha), but honestly it's one of the best ways to cool off when emotions heat up and you need a break, no one's feelings get hurt (unless you tell them).

Ah, that makes sense.... I need some time in the 'cooler' myself sometimes.

Maybe the text could be changed to "Add user to ignore list" or "Ignore user" instead of "Add foe"? That would also be more transparent.

I agree. Having "foes" really does go against the grain of what Buddhism teaches. I would expect some new users to see this and wonder "why these foes?"

Sometimes I think ignoring people is not really in accordance with the Bodhisattva ideal either. I mean, we should rather see them as our teachers and so... But then again I must admit that I obviously have my limits and for some people's "teachings" I'm just not ready yet. Maybe "Add to teachers I'm not ready for" would be somehow suitable ;)

But sometimes some people are really glad to be on (my) ignore list. Heavenly Peace to post without getting disagreeing comments.

Cool, so if I foe everybody on the board except those that agree with me I reckon I could have some ace conversations!

PS I have to admit I have put some people on my foe list. It actually works really well. I find that after a while I can come back with a slightly different attitude to their posts.

At your user control panel you will have a list with your "friends". So you can click on the friends name and you can find him much more easy. You can see, what s/he has written more quickly.
Just try it. Maybe you'll find more functions than I found?

Pressing the "friend" button causes a painful but harmless electroshock to be administered via the keyboard of the user that you "friend". It basically tests whether the person on the receiving end is a true friend or not.

If the test fails you get put on the foes list which administers harmful electric shocks at random intervals.

There's someone on this board you agree with?

 ZING

Anyway yeah, the foe list is a practical thing..just like the EDIT button, both IME are best used when they are the only thing standing between you and and angry exchange, you need to cool off, etc.

Of course there is, ME! And, just for the record, sometimes I don't even agree with myself.
