The Mahāyāna-sūtrâlaṃkāra = Yogâcārabhūmi ?

Dasheng zhuangyanjing lun (Mahāyāna-sūtrâlaṃkāra)

I have read that the Mahāyāna-sūtrâlaṃkāra "is comprised of twenty-four chapters, the content of which are almost exactly the same as that of the Chapter of the Bodhisattva Stages in the Yogâcārabhūmi-śāstra 瑜伽論"

Is this the case?

Does that mean that if I read the Analysis of the Śrāvakabhūmi Manuscript by Alex Wayman [http://www.scribd.com/doc/93350001/Anal ... Manuscript] and the Universal Vehicle Discourse Literature (Mahayanasutralamkara) (American Institute of Buddhist Studies (December 29, 2004) translated by Robert A. F. Thurman [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/097537 ... 8TBMC616WN]that I would, in effect, have the Śrāvaka and Bodhisattva teachings of the Yogācārabhūmi represented in some completeness in front of me?

Thanks

Leo

Well, the Analysis of the Śrāvakabhūmi Manuscript by Wayman leaves quite a bit untranslated (and what is translated could be done better). The Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra covers much of the same ideas as the Bodhisattvabhūmi but the content isn't exactly the same.

The Yogacarabhumi can be roughly considered to be a systematic grand commentary on the Mahāyāna Sūtra Ālaṃkāra, and the five treatises of Maitrya in general.

Thanks for the heads up.

"Covering the same ground" does NOT equal "saying the same thing"!

I wish Kalvinka or Numata would publish the Yogacarabhumi.

PS: I would be glad to see Kalvinka publish anything new. The Dasabhumika (10 stages) would be nice.

It's a huge undertaking, and Numata already did initiate the translation project years ago with several prominent academics. But it might take forever.
