Best Recent Buddhist Scholarship

I hope someone can help. I currently teaching in China and was approached by a colleague who wishes to put together a volume of the best recent academic scholarhip in Buddhism. She is looking mainly for article length publications. I know this is a rather vague criterion but I wonder if anyone can suggest some resources that might be helpful. Even a listing of the top academic journals where Buddhist scholarship is published would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Paul Williams put together an 8-volume set entitled "Buddhism: Critical Concepts in Religious Studies", published by Routledge in 2005, which collects 110 key articles in Buddhist Studies published over the past few decades in journals.

He writes, in his General Introduction, "The present set of volumes seeks to reprint some of the more significant papers in Buddhist Studies of recent years that are otherwise available in the overwhelming majority of cases only in journals. This is because it is journal collections, and of course back copies of specialist journals, that are likely to be most difficult to find and access for many students and interested general readers."

I imagine that this would be good starting-point for your colleague to examine; Williams draws from a variety of journals, both common and obscure.

I wonder if there is an online list of those 110 article titles & authors?

Routledge charges about $2700 for the set, here are some other options for $1800 or so - make sure they are full sets though.

The Williams volumes have all hit the internet (on Scribd), if you are not troubled by copyright vios. Vol 1 has the TOC for all volumes. I would say 60-70% is easily JSTORable, the rest not.

If your friend is a scholar - and why else would they be compiling a volume? - then maybe ask other scholars, such as at Universities, or at least at H-Buddhism?
