Newbie from Gelugpa / FPMT lineage

Postby Spirituality » Thu May 31, 2012 3:48 pm

Hi all,

I'm impressed with the level of the discussions here. I've already butted in on a few threads and expect to continue doing so. As to background I'm a former theosophist currently active in studying under a Gelugpa geshe in the netherlands. I've studied Buddhism at Leiden university as my speciality within the World religions program.

Welcome, I am a fellow Gelugpa/FPMT practitioner. I think I recognize your pic from the DB forum.

Hello :)
Abandoning Dharma is, in the final analysis, disparaging the Hinayana because of the Mahayana; favoring the Hinayana on account of the Mahayana; playing off sutra against tantra; playing off the four classes of the tantras against each other; favoring one of the Tibetan schools—the Sakya, Gelug, Kagyu, or Nyingma—and disparaging the rest; and so on. In other words, we abandon Dharma any time we favor our own tenets and disparage the rest.

Thanks everybody, liking it here. I'm a former e-sangha contributor too, btw, though I don't remember what my handle was back then.

Greetings Katinka and welcome!

Your Private Messaging is disabled, so I will mention that the 'Katinka' URL in your sig does not work. http://www.katinkahesselink.net/t

That extra 't' may be the problem.
One should refrain from biased judgments and doubting in fathoming the Buddha and the Dharma of the Buddhas. Even though a dharma may be extremely difficult to believe, one should nonetheless maintain faith in it. Nagarjuna

Turns out linking to that page was against the TOS: apparently a site becomes spam from having advertisements on it, at least, according to the moderators. So now I'm featuring sites from my portfolio that do not have ads on...
