hello, i did some searching on the net and found this place. i am a recent convert to Mahayana Buddhism. i came her to possibly get guidance or advice about implementing Mahayana into a american life as i find living in america is a much different experience than other parts of the world. i do own firearms. 2 i keep for defense, but the others are strictly for target shooting (been into anything "accuracy" related since i was a kid. did knife throwing, pellet rifles and even a bit of archery). i don't want to kill anyone, but i also don't want to die and where i am its a good idea to keep a firearm around. just the other day we had a armed robbery where after the victim gave up his wallet and jewelry the robber shot at him, his wife and his 2 month old child, this all happened 2 streets over from where i live so i think the defensive guns are going to stay as long as i am in this area.
anyway i am a recent convert, defiantly the only Buddhist in my family (i come from a long line of Catholics) and there really is no Mahayana temple or center near me, when i get a break from school i will take the train and visit a center that is in another city, but there is a pure land temple in my city, i figured i will go over there one day after class and say hello. i look forward to talking with you all and learning more.
