An Intro

Hi guys,

I have studied Buddhism on and off since I was in high school, but only recently put serious effort into practicing it. This is mainly because I wish to get a better handle on my mental illness: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, depression, unwanted thoughts, and OCD-ish stuff. I take medications too, but I would like to root out the problems at their source instead of merely covering them up with mood-enhancers. For almost two years I have done daily meditation of about 20-minutes a sitting once or sometimes twice a day. Of primary interest to me are Zen and the Pure Land schools, but all forms of Buddhism are interesting to me too. As mentioned above, I do experience intrusive thoughts and saying the Nembutsu sometimes helps when I'm in the midst of nasty panic attacks.

This article http://www.buddhistvihara.com/newslette ... nessto.htm was one of the reasons which inspired me to explore Buddhism further. I re-read it often.

Thanks. That's all I can think of to say at the moment.

Welcome to DharmaWheel WuWei!
Thanks for the heads up on the article.
I started saying nembutsu/nianfo when various cravings hit and I find it helps me too.
