Hello all! I've been a student of comparative religion in a "hobbyist" sort of way for a long time. I'd like to stop being a hobbyist and become a practitioner.

Patrul Rinpoche's advice about following a spiritual friend:
Just as the trunk of an ordinary tree
Lying in the forest of the Malaya mountains
Absorbs the perfume of sandal from the moist leaves and branches
So you become to resemble whomever you follow.
