Re: Ole Nydahl's teachings
Hi Folks- Happy to see this attempt at a clear discussion on Lama Ole. I am a student of his and really only have good things to say. I've known the man for many years and been 'behind the curtain' enough to be convinced he is what he says he is. Anyways that's not really germane to this topic but I...

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl - Diamond Way
Oh and one more thing about the Karma Kagyu Diamond Way. It is recognized as a legitimate charitable non-profit in the US and Canada as well as an official religion in Denmark, Greece, Austira, Poland, Hungary, and Russia.

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl - Diamond Way
I wonder why these oblique anti-Lama Ole posts keep popping up on this site? Is there some agenda at play shared among a few discreet parties? Not long after a huge thread about Lama Ole and Diamond Way just ended, another pops up. Curiousier and curiouser. Its becoming quite clear that there are se...

Re: Cops raid at the Karmapas office
No role for the Karmapa The Dalai Lama has acted shrewdly in giving up his political position and removing the need for a regency Mary Finnigan guardian.co.uk, Thursday 26 May 2011 16.31 BST More than 400 delegates from 20 countries met this week in the Indian Himalayas to implement changes that wil...

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl, what do you think?
Dechen, you are the man. Seriously. I don't think anyone can hold a candle to your fine and well reasoned arguments. I'm truly amazed at the intellectual stamina possessed by many in this group! Just to add one small point regarding Lama Ole. He has never perpetrated or incited any violence against ...

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl, what do you think?
Lama Ole is mostly disliked and smeared in the US because he supports Karmapa Trinlay Thaye Dorje and thwarted an attempt by the Shambala organization to co-opt the seat of the Karmapas after the 16th passed in the 80s. No, Ole was disliked before that. Trungpa thought he was an idiot. N So funny c...

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl, what do you think?
Ole is a dumb guy. But his concerns, while phrased in right wing terms that I do not particularly admire show that there is an underlying problem with the assimilation of Muslims in Europe. Of course we can point to colonial policies in various colonies, etc., but ghettos form for two reasons, one ...

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl, what do you think?
I fail to see your point. The Islamic ideology is what is dangerous and yes you are right that most people just want to be happy and live their lives. Its the other 10% that screws it up for all of us. Unfortunately there is a tacit acceptance/fear to criticize, of 'extremism' in 'moderate' Muslim ...

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl, what do you think?
So your evidence is this: The Abrahamic religions, the ones that follow our constitution, treat women well, don't blow up people, you know, who are not involved in their problems...Judaism and Christianity are fine. Islam, I warn against. I know the Koran, I know the life story of Mohammad and I th...

Re: uncomfortable mantra question
You can't take the Tantra texts literally. Everything in them is symbolic on purpose. To properly understand them you need to have each part explained by a qualified teacher.

A correction! The life story of Mohammed is called the Sira. The Hadith is Islamic law based on the actions/sayings of Mohammed.

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl, what do you think?
No argument here, and this clarification is much better than saying "you can't be a Buddhist and a racist at the same time." The question remains, however--is Ole's position based on Dharma and equanimity, or based on something which is diametrically opposed to Buddhist teachings. Your li...

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl, what do you think?
Cone- One of the fundamental teachings of Mahayana Buddhism is that we go for enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. If you do it for some and not others, you're not practicing Buddhism and therefore not a Buddhist. So you can't be a Buddhist and be a racist at the same time. It is not a give...

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl, what do you think?
-Lama Ole Nydahl[/quote] He's making an argument in jurisprudence about the relation between Dutch sovereign law and Islamic minorities in Holland? Evidence? Re: Lama Ole Nydahl, what do you think?
Taking this statement at face value, we can interpret it two ways...first,no sentient being, and not merely only Buddhists, can ever be racist, because any being possesses Buddha Nature (thus all beings are the same, essentially). Or, second, Buddhists cannot discriminate, by the mere fact of recog...

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl, what do you think?
Fine, but I don't see Lama Ole making a subtle argument about the juridical system. He's not saying "sovereign law should be equally applied to all citizens. I am troubled by the friction between the proper functioning of a law and minorities." Nor are many of the right in Europe, for tha...

Re: Lama Ole Nydahl, what do you think?
It definitely seems like there are many on this group who do not like Lama Ole. I very much do but, as evidenced in many other chat groups, it quickly becomes a circular conversation debating why someone should or should not accept him as a teacher. Its not so important though because its better you...
