Re: More Bon than Buddha?
So the 'theravadins' don't actually have any real evidence to lay claim to being the 'purest' interpretation of the Dharma? Correct. This point has been discussed a lot on here and other forums. I'm sure you can find some really long debates about this using the search function. Since the search fu...

Hanuman Yant.jpg Hanuman Yant blessed by the Theravada monk LP Sin of the Thai monastary Wat Laharnyai. Is Theravada Buddhism more Hindu than Buddha(sic)? :good: Oooer! Odd how preconceptions and generic ideas can be so wrong! I have always been content with how 'Tibetan' Buddhism has been presente...

Oddly enough, I recall noticing the glaring similarities in Kali and Vajrayogini when first coming across Vajrayana.

Excellent point! The Buddha doesn't talk about incense or mediation mats in the Pali canon either, why talk about the tools

Re: More Bon than Buddha?
Nice read.Perhaps you are just ignorant about Theravada traditions? 2 minutes of google and I found this http://tdm.sas.upenn.edu/monastery/ritual_liturgy.html

Still doesn't answer my question though.
No matter.

But...?No. You seem to overlook the fact that the Buddhist tantric traditions of Tibet originated from Indian Buddhist tantrics. Of course there are some Bon influences, but...

More Bon than Buddha?
The Tibetan traditions seem a million miles away from the Theravadins who I understand are considered to be the closest to what the Buddha actually taught himself prior to any major interpretations. There were no Vajras, Bells, Inner Offerings....etc... in the Discourses  Is the Tibetan tradi...

Re: What was Tsongkhapa refuting re Theravada?
Oh, I stand corrected. I was labouring under the thought that he and Shantideva refuted what I understand as the Theravada take on Emptiness that might not go as far as the Prasangikas. I guess if he wasn't even aware of Theravada then how could he...... ...actually how could he not be aware of the ...

What was Tsongkhapa refuting re Theravada?
Hi all,
Exactly what was he refuting? Was it the Dhammas or realities that the Theravadin schools contend exist?
Thanks,
BB...

Dzogchen and Silent Illumination/Shikantaza
Hi, I shifted somewhat from a formal practice in Vajrayana to the more minimilistic practices of the Theravada and more recently those of the Soto/Chan school. The practice I settled into over the last couple of years is Silent Illumination as taught by Master Sheng Yen. I know little about Dzogchen...

Re: Deities
It is a really stupid question actually. If you visualize yourself as Darth Vader you will have his blessing, that is nothing at all since he is a fictional character. You think Tara is a fictional character then what are you doing in the Vajrayana section of this forum? How rude....! Tell me what ...

"Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy"
I am a Psycholgical Therapist. I am seeing a growing number of people being trained in "Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy" who are then let loose in our hospitals and surgeries 'teaching' what many of us have been doing for decades. I for one feel a little agreived at this for many reaso...
