Re: Coating the inside of a statue / stupa prior to filling it?

Pema-la, Good for you. I've filled quite a few statues, but I've not heard of painting the inside of a stupa or statue with a saffron and glue mixture. Usually the instructions are to first clean out any casting residue. Then smoke the inside with myrrh. And then wash the inside with saffron water a...

Re: Does drubcho work as lung or even as wang?

IME, typically there is no wang given with a cdrubcho. However, there typically is a wang given with a drubchen, ar least for those attending who have not had that wang.

Re: Stagnant sanghas, teachers not teaching

"Dharma is not just about getting Enlightened. It's about shaping and taming a place for dharma to endure." Excellent point. I was taught never to neglect promoting the Dharma or benefitting sentient beings. Compared to these two, benefitting oneself comes third. If we do not insure the co...

Re: My last will and testament

Lingugpa, You might consider writing a separate "Dharma Will." This can be updated any time you need or want to by yourself without the help of a lawyer. Anyen Rinpoche in Denver suggests this in one of His books on death and dying. He has a lot of good advice on what to include. Sorry, I ...

Re: Stagnant sanghas, teachers not teaching

The ego is a slippery thing. IME, it's all too easy to think you're doing the right job when, in fact, you are coasting. But I agree, becoming one's Teacher's zhabji is not the only way to gain accomplishment. There are plenty of stories of students getting a teaching and then going off to practice ...

Re: Stagnant sanghas, teachers not teaching

That's because I didn't write the whole story. I got up to the point where I would have to start including things about my Dharma brothers and sisters. Since most of them are still alive, I don't feel comfortable with that. Perhaps more to the point, I have no interest in doing that.

Re: Stagnant sanghas, teachers not teaching

I was often told to do things I didn't want to do or to stop doing things I wanted to do. Sometimes these were little things. Sometimes these were big things, like vefry, very big things. The pain was my own pain of attachment. But there was never a time that I could just "drift." I was ne...

Re: Stagnant sanghas, teachers not teaching

Yagmort, I spent 19 years with the Kazi family. This included Naljor Sonam Kazi (this is how He's referred to in Dudjom Rinpoche's namthar), His wife, Nordzinla (better know as Mrs. Kazi, the daughter of H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche's first Consort, Tsheten Yudron), and Their Daughter, Jetsun Pema Kazi (the...

Re: Stagnant sanghas, teachers not teaching

The role of the Teacher is not just to transmit texts and comment on them. For that, YouTube, Zoom, etc. may be acceptable. However, IME, it's important to be with the Teacher as much as possible (as long as you don't get burnt in the process). As the Teacher really gets to know you, He or She can g...

Tingdzin,

Orgyen Kusum Lingpa revealed a number of terma here in the United States. Tulku Sherdor of Blazing Wisdom has compiled these and published them in a book.

Re: Stagnant sanghas, teachers not teaching

1. "He [Guru Rinpoche] did not place termas anywhere else." That's not true. Terma have been revealed in the U.S . and I feel quite certain that more will come. 2. There are some Western practitioners who have been made lineage holders by their Tibetan Teachers, been made Lamas, and been g...
