Re: EGO

Is Ego afraid of Emptiness? As CTR says in the passage quoted by Ayu ego is not a 'thing' it is an activity. Dharma suggests several strategies for dropping that activity. But it's not easy. We are born with that activity already functioning. It needs work. And for most of us, guidance. When you sa...

Re: Illusion

A 'real table' is different from an 'illusory table' in that one does not interact with the illusory table in the same way one does with the real table; one can tap on the real table or stub one's toe on it, but one cannot do this with an illusory one. One could perhaps say 'don't worry about tripp...

EGO

Is Ego afraid of Emptiness? What is EGO so afraid of? What exactly is EGO though? -"I", "me", ethnicity, culture, rich/poor, social/anti-social, introverted/extroverted....etc... Are we trying to destroy EGO, or uncover the consciousness/cosmic whatever you call that is always th...

Re: healing crystals in buddhism??

Is there a certain amount/size of gem that can be worn to be considered powerful enough to have some effect? Do they have to be worn close to the heart? Also, is it better to purchase raw crystals that have not been polished, tumbled, and dyed? Gems can be cut, but as I mentioned, they should be la...

Re: healing crystals in buddhism??

Good thing you brought this up, I have been struggling to believe whether or not astrology is a legitimate system, especially when I used to hang around Tibetans. Since much of Tibetan Buddhism and Culture uses astrology for so many things i.e, death procedures, marriage, events, etc...Recently I al...

Re: healing crystals in buddhism??

Gems need to be specially prepared in order to used as medicine, they are generally reduced to ash. Also some gems can be worn, and have certain benefits, for example, people with liver problems often wear turquoise. Zi stones are worn to ward off strokes. Diamonds can absorb obstacles. But they ha...

Re: How appearances arise

This is a section from Thrangu Rinpoche's "Pointing Out the Dharmakaya." It’s a lot like dreaming. So, to use a dream as an example, when you start to dream, the dream begins as a thought, like one you would have in the daytime. But you’re asleep, so the thought intensifies and becomes so...

Re: healing crystals in buddhism??

The most powerful use of gems is when they are reduced to liquid (digestable) and then mixed with ash. In folk tradition around my countries we use to dip gems into 40-90% alcohol and leave it for couple month, then take a shot from time to time - works very good. I see, what are the benefits of pr...

Re: healing crystals in buddhism??

Precious Gems are the most important medicines in Buddhadharma. Their healing properties are well known. But since they are expensive, and difficult to obtain, we use herbs instead. M 1. But would eating crystals have negative effects on the body, since we can't digest them? 2. Where can I find thi...

Would crystals be considered "sentient beings"? I have heard that there are living atoms inside the crystals and they can influence people's emotional problems and open up chakras or harmonize the body/mind. Are crystals considered conscious because if they can have influence over people i...

Re: Talking Too Much

I guess if I had to be assertive and tell people that they're talking too much it would sound annoying but if it's for the benefit of my practice, I should be assertive right guys? Yes, that might upset people, not sure about that. On the other hand, why do you worry that others talk too much ? I s...

Re: Talking Too Much

1 has two different reasons. First, talking discourages the appropriate mental state for meditation. Second, talking depletes a small amount of energy from bodily reserves. 2 I can't comment on the Tibetan medicine view, but in TCM, from a qigong perspective, if you don't have enough energy to be h...
