I've been working on a nifty tool to converter between 60+ Indic scripts including Tibetan, Siddham and other romanization formats. http://aksharamukha.appspot.com/#/converter Also, you can view some sample texts in all of the scripts supported. http://akshara...

Re: Pronouncation (yes one of these)

Sakya Pandita renders jñā and "gnya". Also in Varanasi, that is how it is taught there. In general, Tibetans who spoke Sanskrit followed the N. Indian mode of pronunciation and consider this the most correct. It may not match up with linguistic history, but indeed it is how they see it. I...

Re: Pronouncation (yes one of these)

Additonally to Malcolm's way, I've also been taught that it's pronounced "gya" (I think this may be the most common way now, but not necessarily the most historically accurate) Usually, this is the North Indian pronunciation of the syllable. South Indians (including me) still pronounce it...

Thanks for this.

It would be quite useful to get a sense of what the text is about.

Re: New Lalitavistara Sutra translation

Thanks for that V. 'The play in full' is scarcely English. Is there a better way of translating Lalitavistara? Or is it just one of those things better left in the original? D I know. Something always gets lost during translation ! Doesn't it ? In this case, I assume its best left as-is. Or...

Re: New Lalitavistara Sutra translation

Thanks for this Will. As a title, 'The Play in Full' sounds slightly strange to my ear - but a definite improvement on Wiki's 'Extensive Sport Sutra' ! D  Bear in mind that the concept of "Divine Play/Sport" is very much ingrained in the Indian psyche. The word "...

Apratishtita Nirvana

The idea of "parinirvana" is generally not upheld by any Mahayana school but only as a skilful means, since buddhas remain helping sentient beings till the end of samsara. This is true for both the Jodoshu and Jodoshinshu as far as I know. Also note that one of the names of Amida is Infin...

Re: Cryonic Preservation and Rebirth

My thoughts are that for this to work, the person would have to be put into suspended animation before they actually died. But I think this is always done after the person is medically dead? Well.. People say that the neural connections in the Brain remain intact, a few hours after the clinical dea...

Cryonic Preservation and Rebirth

Hi All, I was recently reading about people preserving their body at cryogenic temperatures, in the hope that in the future that they can perhaps be re-animated  Since, the person is already dead, he/she would have already had rebirth(s). Assuming, that in the future that it is possible to...
