Re: Lama Lobsang Palden

my 2c on this thread.... We should ask the questions, but perhaps not in a public forum (esp on the interwebs...). The guru relationship is a pretty personal one. One can glean bits and pieces of info from hearsay, but in the end, its just that, hearsay. At some point, one has to meet the guru in qu...

Re: Lama Lobsang Palden

I've met Lama Lobsang too, so i will say I probably see him more as a friend than as a guru. He did help me a lot learning the Tibetan alphabet. So from my perspective, he's never had a bad word to say about anyone, and can really kick my butt in a yoga class. This I see as a positive thing. He's a ...

Re: Monks & Lay, Money & Dharma.

I happen to be decent with computers, and its amazing how many people expect me to 'fix their computer's problems' for free. My brother in law the car mechanic has the same sorta stories. In other words, this is not a problem related to the dharma, and dharma teachers! Westerners are lazy and want f...

yes i know thanks.
yet it appears that you implied that this sort of begging thing would be suitable for them, or perhaps by extension, any spiritual teacher... with this i strongly disagree.

Hi ron,

what if one does not have the capacity to pay?
If one is sincere in the desire to benefit all beings and practise dharma, and expresses this to whomever one is trying to get teachings from, doors may open that appear at first glance, to be closed.

Re: Lama Lobsang Palden

remember now we are discussing vipasyana and shamatha meditation, not rituals. No we're not, from the website 'Lama Lobsang Palden offers private instruction in Tibetan Buddhist Meditation by appointment.' In my book, this could be anything from shamatha to how to set up the shrine for Green Tara o...

Would you expect a doctor to patch you up for free? They might do it out of a Hippocratic responsibility, but in general, its expected that we would pay them.

How is this any different?

Re: Lama Lobsang Palden

Why not charge? How else do we attach value to something if not with a price tag in this culture? why should you pay someone else for you to just sit and do nothing? :rolling: If you dont know how to do that, and you cannot find peace, a moment of instruction showing you your mind's nature is price...

Re: Lama Lobsang Palden

Does anyone here have any experience as a student of Lama Lobsang Palden? I've contacted him regarding one-on-one meditation instruction, which he charges $125.00 for 6 sessions. Seems kind of odd. ok, but it breaks down to about $20 a session, i dont think one should charge for meditation instruct...

Re: A question of...clothing?

In an odd way, this thread maybe answers the OP in the best way possible. People have so many trips about the clothing that maybe it is best not worrying about. On the other hand, one of the posters on this thread opined that lay Tibetans don't tend to wear zens. While this may be true, they also d...

1) Find someone qualified who will give you teachings on it.
2) get the transmission for it

Re: Prostrations= Punishment?

Some people would find the number of miles i run in a week to be 'punishment', however, i do not. They have a purpose, to train me up for running a marathon. They do hurt sometimes, they are hard to finish sometimes. So too with prostrations, they don't have to be 'punishment', this is not to negate...
