Sermon by 25th HBS Head Priest

Hi. Here is a sermon, with English subs, from the 25th Honmon Butsuryu Shu priest, Nichikai Yamauchi at Yuseiji Temple in Kyoto. Its very rare to see a HBS lecture with English subtitles! The topic is on provisions for the next life through chanting the Odaimoku. Enjoy. http://ryosetsu.com/?p=775 Na...

By the meritorious power of the Primordial Dharma of the Primordial Land which i uphold and recite, may all the victims of the Nepal earthquake be reborn close to the Buddhas teachings and realize the enlightened state of Buddhahood.

Re: Religious transference: Nichiren Buddhism and Catholicis

Id have guess that if any sect is similar to Christianity it would be Jodo Shinshu. The whole trust in Amidas vows and promise of salvation and rebirth thing.
I cant make a comparison between Nichiren and other religions. Nichiren is Nichiren.

Theres a difference between faith and stupidity. Im sure that any Buddha would recommend you seek professional medical help for sickness rather than doing what this man suggests.

Re: How seriously do you take Nichiren's writings?

He specified that by "seriously" he means "literally" and that he's talking about the specific passages from the texts that threaten hell to Pure Land followers etc. It's pretty clear that he is not asking if Nichiren followers take Nichiren's writing seriously in general... Am ...

How seriously do you take Nichiren's writings?

Hi all,
In Nichirens many gosho there are constant references to other sects as being heretical, their members being condemned to the avici hell and admonishing believers of other sects.
It gets to be quite vicious in some instances.
How seriously, or literally, do you take it?

Re: Slandering the Dharma

Wow, such great replies. Thank you! It will take a while to understand all of this. So once exposed to the Practices of the Lotus Sutra and once having accepted them, to reject or abandon them can be construed as slander? At what point did you "accept and uphold" the teachings of the Lotus...

Re: Reciting Mantra & Dharani

Hi, I like to recite in the language it originated from. The way the ancients recited them. As for the excerpts and other recitations of praise, invocation, etc, that I recite as part of my practice, I like to recite in English if Im doing it alone. That way it helps me internalise the meaning bette...

Re: Slandering the Dharma

In the Honmon Butsuryu-shu as part of our litrugy we recite a small portion of the verse from Chapter 21 of the Lotus Sutra, which reads: As the bright light of the Sun and Moon Can clear away all darkness and obscurity, So this man, practicing in the world , Can extinguish the darkness of beings. Slandering the Dharma

Hi everyone. Those who do not believe this sūtra But slander it, Will destroy the seeds of Buddhahood When their present lives end, They will fall into the Avīci Hell. Most of us belong to different Lotus Sutra based sects with different emphasis on Dharma slander. Some sects may take quotes like th...
