Re: The Great Abortion Debate
When The Buddha was in the world, there was Laywoman by the name Confusion. She was practising the Buddha Dharma in her home life. She begged The Buddha to allow her to leave the home life. Sorrowfully she cried to The Buddha, "World Honoured One, I have created deep and evil karma. I am regre...

Re: The Great Abortion Debate
These infants had their normal development interrupted by voluntary or forced abortion. They are abandoned here because their makers refused to accept responsibility, pretending that the child had been conceived either casually or illegitimately. The fetus had taken human shape so its innate life d...

If I read this right, it is true. The rituals are very very similarThere are little reasons to believe the, setting the fundamental difference in view aside for a moment, corresponding Buddhist texts were very different in terms of ritualistic approach.

Re: Gender & Buddhism
A translator (Tibetan to German) once told us that "Bodhisattva" in general is any gender. It must not be a he. Can be a she as well with equal likelyness. This makes me assume that gender is of no import for Bodhisattvas. According to Monier-Williams and all skt dictionaries, the genre i...

Re: What are your thoughts on this comment regarding the Lotus Sutra?
Basically, the Lotus is considered the highest teaching for the reason Minobu's lama told him there is no highest teaching, but rather, whatever teaching is drawing you along the path is the highest teaching. Mahayana people will still say that the mahayana is 'higher' than the hinayana, and vajray...

Re: Incense burners
In a month, you can pour the sand through a screen and retrieve all the unburnt ends. Those can be crushed into a powder and burned. If you are using the correct type of burner for these type of incense, there won't be any left overs. But, you can go to a religious supply store and get one of these...

Ah, thanks, yes. Not familiar with that spelling - jiaobei is more familiar. That's a good way to check. :) I had wrote it how I say it and then looked up the thread later. But ya, thats one of the main reason we use those is to ask 'have you finished your dinner yet?' If they laugh it means they a...

Re: Is it okay to re-offer candles weve had to put out?
Is it generous of us to offer a candle and then withdraw the offer, or is that the same as with other offerings, determining when they are 'spent'? I don't know about candles, but you once postded some pictures of your bwa bei. We very often use those to ask "are you done with your dinner?&quo...

Re: Is it okay to re-offer candles weve had to put out?
Best to allow them to burn completely out on their own. I agree with this. I don't like to put out candles and that why at home I don't offer them in the morning. Lama Dawa Chodrak would not allow us to even light incense from a candle we had already offered since it was not ours to use. Ok, so I w...
