Re: Planting juniper for sang

Any species of coniferous trees would do, save for the poisonous ones. There are three genera of poisonous conifers: Taxus (Yew) which is extremely poisonous and should be avoided at all costs, Tsuga (Hemlock) which is very poisonous and should also not be used and Tuja (Thuja/Cedar), which is mildl...

Hello, does anyone know what Zimchung Kawang is? Hh Chetsang Rinpoche will be offering it next year in Srawasti. Hard to say. In general, Zimchung means appartment or a private chamber, Kawang is like a high dignitary or high official/administrator. Basically Zimchung Kawang could be a title for a ...

Re: Correct sanskrit pronunciation

Generally, there is disagreement about whether it's important to properly pronounce Sanskrit mantras in Tibetan Buddhism. There's a lot of interesting debate to be had here, and yes it is always good to follow your teacher, but you also deserve a simple answer to your question. So, whether you're o...

Chnn was not a fan of tulku system I heard from a reliable source a reincarnation of ChNN has been identified. I have no other details than this, but source is highly placed within the DC. Does this imply Rinpoche left a letter with instructions? Rinpoche did as far as I know leave a letter, where ...

Three representations of the objects of refuge: Buddha Dharma (Buddhist text or book with a sutra) Sangha (such as an image of your teacher) Akshually, it is a statue that represents Sangha, since it represents a body of Buddha. Stupa represents his mind, therefore Buddhha himself and the sutra (or...

Re: Sub-schools of Kagyu

My simplyfied take on the different subschools of Tagpo Kagyu :D (no disrespect intended). Karma Kagyu - guruyoga poets - We make guruyoga liturgies of every single Karmapa, and more! Here, go practice some guruyoga. Drikung Kagyu - jack of all trades - Do you need some simple, upadesha style, pract...

Re: Ley Bum (Bumpa) - How to keep it clean !

Before using saffron water it is good to boil it for some time, this gets rid of any bacteria and fungi that are on the saffron and which make saffron water go quickly stale. You boil it for at least 15 minutes, then let it cool and then it is ready for use. Apart from that, of course, do as Lama Pe...

Re: Jagannatha in tantric buddhism

And according to this blog post Indrabuthi also referred to Jagannatha. If this is genuine, then this looks like an attempt on Indrabuthi's side to somehow unify the cult around Jagannatha with buddhist practitioners of that time by simply equating Jagannatha with Buddha. No he did not refer to Hin...

Not that 5 precepts are not given with refuge vow, it is more that they are often not explained in detail. Teachers would usually just say: "... and the precept is that you will not (purposefully) kill or harm other beings." Sometimes even the restraints of refuge vow, such as: not taking ...
