Re: Does drubcho work as lung or even as wang?

Was there no empowerment at the beginning of the drubcho?

I think this is the book CNN recommended HHDL read. Are you referring to ChNN (Chögyal Namkhai Norbu)? Or another Lama? Yes. Did I misremember the story? I remember it very slightly differently but the gist is the same. One time the Dalai Lama asked Norbu Rinpoche which book he thought explains Dzo...

Re: Breath by James Nestor

My bolt score was around 30 seconds, I’m in really good cardiovascular shape right now and it takes a lot to wind me, it was lower than I expected, but then again I’m also getting older. I have to say I’m somewhat confused about the bolt score as a measurement of breath efficacy. Not convinced that...

Can you guys recommend some exercises as a preventative measure? I'm pretty sure I'm in the group of people who shouldn't be doing much forward bending.

Re: Tsalung w/ & w/o completion stages

Thank you for the responses and info. I am student of ChNN’s but I have found after practicing my and engaging multiple times (including with trained teachers) that his yantra yoga is not for me. I love it when I’ve done it, but certain mobility issues I have make me consistently get injured, even ...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

To Mr. Pero Well, the quote is too far back in this thread to use the quote function, but quoting a single unsubstantiated citation on Rigpawiki is not going to convince anyone. Show me some Tibetan sources in which you find the term theg pa'i gyud . Here it is clearly a back-translation. I wasn't ...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

It is obviously a part of the path of Dzogchen. If you don't think that please explain why they are described in the 17 tantras? Part of the path is not same as saying they are the path. And even as part of the path it's not like they are indispensible. I think in the case of bcud len, we can say i...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

I am just saying what is written in the 8th vajra topic and what is written in ChNNR big Trecho book. I am saying it makes Dzogchen very clearly part of Vajrayana and Mahayana. What is it that you say? Vimalamitra cites the Heap of Jewels Tantra in topic 8 of The Great Commentary . The actual basis...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

What exactly is indispensable is not easy to know. None of the texts I mentioned above seem to have anything to say about that. Which is why you need the teacher's instructions. But, it's pretty easy to see stuff like chudlen is not indispensible, because how many teach it? How many practiced it to...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

ChNNR, Longchenpa and Vimalamitra in Buddhahood in this Life all explain the typical mantrayana practices such as dreamyoga, chudlen, tummo and so on as the path of Dzogchen. It is a point done by the great masters, not by me. It is obviously a part of the path of Dzogchen. If you don't thi...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

Of course it is, but there are all those things you say belong to the lower vehicles in Ati also. Read ChNNR book on Trechö for example. I don't know why you think this matters. By your logic sutra is dzogchen also, since dzogchen contains stuff from sutra. Or, IIRC Rongzom says in his Entering the...

Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

In the lower vehicles they have yidam, mandala, tummo etc. In Ati yoga we have gazing at the sky and starlight with our crystal nadi. Ati yoga is unsurpassed. Re: What role do ritual implements play in Dzogchen?

I suspect that CHNN was referring to Nupchen Sangye Yeshe's "Lamp for the Eye of Contemplation", in which he drew distinctions between 1) the "ordinary" bodhisattva path, 2) the approach of Chan, 3) the approach of the mantra vehicle, and 4) the approach of Atiyoga. Nupchen used...

"Tawa" is the Tibetan word for view.
