Perhaps. Could also be a wonderful and appropriate gift for someone in great need of a possibly unimagined opening.

Re: My last will and testament

Perhaps you might consider giving your books to a prison library, especially one where many of the inmates are serving long sentences.

Re: What do you personally derive from Zazen meditation?

Recently I've been thinking about the purpose of zazen meditation, if any, and I thought that'd make an interesting conversation point. But rather than debating an objective purpose, I'm curious what members here feel that they personally get out of Zazen meditation. If you practice it, why? Thanks...

Re: Should I save the rabbit or the falcon?

Just as ridiculous as suggesting that a person is an appropriate food for a wild animal. My dog is a vegetarian and it’s certainly ridiculous, beyond ridiculous, to say that he is an appropriate food for a wild animal. It’s so ridiculous that it should not even need to be said…. From the valid pers...

Re: Instantaneous death and the Bardo

Suppose a practitioner finds themselves in a situation like the Titan sub, where they're eviscerated in a fraction of a second, with hardly enough time to even register what's happening, much less to prepare for the moment of death. To even contemplate much less undertake that kind of adventure one...

That there's nothing to attain.
Why do I need to know that, given the deep insight of DKM?

Why is it important to know if devas can or cannot attain enlightenment? What does it suggest about the possibilities of our own human situation if they can, or cannot?

Re: Necro posting (deserves a rethink)

Perhaps all threads should be locked (automatically?) six months after the last post rather than the method/non-method now on place. As it stands the necro posting rule is something of a reverse ad-hominem … addressing the alleged concerns of the person (who may or may not be long gone) rather than ...

Re: Necro posting (deserves a rethink)

In a discussion forum dedicated to a 2500 year old spiritual tradition, it seems a bit odd to automatically raise alarm bells when someone posts in a thread that has been dormant for a year or three. Just sayin'. Every forum I’ve ever been on with much traffic has this rule. We do make exceptions t...

Re: Being present is boring

My mind is often loud and racing, and I am seldom truly present. I have been practicing and it’s tough. However the other day, the mental chatter suddenly became quiet and I was simply looking at the trees on a walk. I felt calm and peaceful. For just a few seconds. And then the thoughts said: “Thi...

Re: how many years does it take you to understand the practice?

Looking back over nearly 40 years, I can’t count how many times I thought I had got it. I anticipate this will occur again in the future, when I look back on today. I think this is why, even if you ask great masters, they will tell you they don’t know yet. It’s like being an astronomer… within a co...

how many years does it take you to understand the practice? wondered. and if you don't mind what are the tips that speed up/quicken the process?? Is there a timeline, a process? No. All that is required is to begin. It doesn’t get any quicker than that. As a well known zen ancestor (don’t remember ...

I would appreciate that. I’m very interested in Buddhist teachings that might elaborate on the functions of the body’s eye and the mind’s eye.
