Re: Ngondro in Dzogchen

ChNN performed practices Ngondro twice but they are not required in the Dzogchen provided that the student has the highest ability. I'm not at such a high level So what should I do? Find a master who will guide you through Ngondro with a track towards Dzogchen. ChNN isn't the only one out there. If...

Re: Climate Change: We're Doomed

All the talk about who is causing what is utterly pointless. We are way past anything useful coming from that discussion. Agreed - provided that what you are trying to say is that the present-climate change is to a significant extent man-made, hence no need to 'talk about who is causing what' anymo...

Re: Climate Change: We're Doomed

All the talk about who is causing what is utterly pointless. We are way past anything useful coming from that discussion. The planet is warming. We're already seeing changes in weather patterns as a result. The ice caps continue melting. Nothing can stop it now. THIS is what we should be concerned w...

Re: Trungpa's chöd

I heard back from Brown's secretary.

Alta is aware of the CTR terma chod practice but not familiar with it as the translation is incomplete.

Afterward .....

I reached out to Alta Brown about the Trungpa Chod terma and the Kornman quote. Awaiting reply.

If I hear anything, I'll be sure to post it.

Re: Trungpa's chöd

but the OP provided a quote implicating that there is a chod practice cycle that he revealed as a terma. . . anyone know anything about that? even a true or false? The quote is from the late Robin Kornman. He was a student of CTR's and a respected translator and teacher. He died about 10 years ago....

Re: Grants/Scholarships for Translator Training

Was wondering if anyone knew of resources for the aspiring Tibetan translator, aside from the Khyentse Foundation & Padmakara Translation Group. Rigpa's website appears to be down at the moment, otherwise I'd add them to the list. Any help and information would be greatly appreciated! Have you ...

Re: "...but the science of Buddhism will never change."

Shakyamuni never taught Tsongkhapa's "Madhyamaka" :quoteunquote: Sure he did. He put it in a time capsule and gave it to some sea serpents to keep at the bottom of the ocean for 1,000 years until Nagarjuna came to pick it up. :juggling: Tshogkhapa just modified it a little. I've often won...

yes Tilopa and Naropa are samyaksambuddhas.
I thought the next samyaksambuddha after Shakyamuni was Maitreya.
That's right.

Re: "...but the science of Buddhism will never change."

Wikipedia is not correct. Anyway the point is that Tilopa, Naropa, Saraha, Khenpo Pelzang are full Buddhas and are as authoratative as Shakyamuni. Actually you said they were samyaksambuddhas, which they are not - at least not Tilopa and Naropa. Wikipedia does contain a correct definition of samyak...

Re: "...but the science of Buddhism will never change."

Samyaksambuddha just means you achieved full realization. I thought a Samyaksambuddha was: Samyaksambuddhas (Pali: sammasambuddha) gain Nirvana by their own efforts, and discover the Dhamma without having a teacher to point it out. They then lead others to enlightenment by teaching the Dhamma in a ...

Re: "...but the science of Buddhism will never change."

It's fine, you can follow whatever system you want, but when you start denigrating Nagarjuna whose teachings are in accordance with the ultimate view of Buddha in order to follow something that was not taught by Buddha at all, something has gone astray. The Mahasiddhas and tertons are also Buddhas....

Re: Local Protectors

Several teachers who have visited Crestone, Colorado, have noted without prompting the strong presence of local protectors there (the late Kusum Kingpa and Adzom tulku, for example; the latter asked some practitioners to do a special service for a particularly fierce mountan peak). Re: Dont no how to find a teacher! Or temple!

I do not no how to find a teacher our a temple! I live in a small town in nc and we don't have anything like that here! What should I do? Where in NC are you? I wouldn't worry too much about finding a teacher. Focus on a sangha you can associate with, even if only once a month. The teacher will com...

Re: Finding other Buddhists

Many thanks for the list of groups from Buddhanet. :thanks: Unfortunately I have already studied this list, but got nowhere. The groups either meet in the evening near Penzance (a long way from here and impossible to get to after work) or are controversial organisations that people warn you about o...

What Happened to The Big View

I used to check into The Big View forum from time to time.

Then one day it was gone.

Kinda like eSangha, but with no word as to what happened.

Anyone know?
