Kalachakra
Hi I am interested in Kalachakra and attending an initiation by His Holiness . Given the strong links with this practice and the Jonang school and shentong view of emptiness, I was wondering how this is reconciled within the Gelug school? Is the prasangkia view of emptiness compatible with this prac...

Re: Scorpion Symbolism
Cool. Does the scorpion itself represent negativities or does it represent Guru Rinpoche's or whomever's power over negativities? If you catch my drift.

Re: Scorpion Symbolism
Yep
Subduing negativities I assume. I have seen them represented on the gates of Nyingma and Kagyu monasteries in India and was told they were connected with Guru Rinpoche. Also, I've seen images of scorpions "subduing" certain disruptive spirits (gyalpos) in protective amulets.

Re: Diamond way buddhism...some thoughts?
For the record I meant wider tibetan buddhist community, in particular the Karma Kagyu. I'm sorry if people are upset but in my experience that is generally the case. In addition I also said "less than favourably", which is a reasonable and tempered phrase. I knew that this would happen, s...

Re: Diamond way buddhism...some thoughts?
There is a wide range of information on this group and their teacher Ole Nydahl on the internet. As a group it is not generally perceived favourably by the wider buddhist community. I have no wish to engage in a debate on the subject as I fear it would be unskillful. Do a search and see for yourself...

Re: Path to follow...
In order to avoid self-pity and develop a genuine interest and diligence for practise, I would recommend meditating on impermanence, death and a precious human birth. Traditional routes would be the Four Thoughts that turn the mind, Lamrim or similar.

Re: Mahakala as your 1st empowerment?
Hey Luke, Cone will probably back me here, but the Kamstang Bernagchen will and should definetly carry a daily commitment, either the extensive Kayigma or more likely the concise daily Torma offering by the 8th Karmapa Mikyo Dorje, commonly known as 'Madakma'. A protector commitment like this shoul...

Re: Looking for seeds
You may want to contact some botanical gardens and ask them if they know of suppliers in the US. I doubt that they would give you any seed or plants but they may be able to point you in the right direction. The best botanical gardens in the US are New York, Chicago and Missouri. Longwood Gardens may...

Re: Looking for seeds
I have done a quick search and could only find a bulk supplier and the site looked a bit suspect (B and T World Seeds). Where do you live? It appears that it is a Zone 10 plant using the USDA system which means that it is only hardy to 30 F or -1 C , or in other words it is not hardy for toffee. If ...

Re: The benefit and virtue of saving and releasing animals
Please make sure that you research what you release, where you release it. For example, frogs bred in captivity and sold in grocery stores may carry viruses and releasing them into rivers and ponds may be harmful to other frogs. This is an important point. You should also be careful not to release ...

Re: Are plants sentient?
FYI dudes, While magnoilas are indeed very old, the earliest angiospems (flowering plants) are believed to have been the ancestors to a plant known as Amborella trichopoda which occurs in New Caledonia. It is generally thought that the first flowering plants would have looked someting like this spec...

Re: Self-restraint can make people angry: study
Indeed repression is unhealthy. I think that the Lojong training is very useful here i.e. Tonglen and related slogans such as " From three objects, the three poisons make three roots of virtue" " When all the world, both animate and inanimate, is filled with evil, transform all advers...
