Because Nyingma Wangs are relatively easy to give compared to two-day HYT wangs.

Are you referring to ChNN (Chögyal Namkhai Norbu)? Or another Lama? Yes. Did I misremember the story? I remember it very slightly differently but the gist is the same. One time the Dalai Lama asked Norbu Rinpoche which book he thought explains Dzogchen the best and Norbu Rinpoche told him Samten Mi...

Hi Arnoud, I don’t think so. And I think that I’ve heard that story (probably on this forum); yet had forgotten about it. Anyway, I personally don’t like it when people abbreviate Lama’s names, unless they spell their name out at least once in a thread, before they start abbreviated it; because I d...

I bought it on kindle. It's not an easy read but I haven't heard any bad things about the translation. Whether or not to recommend it depends on your background. Since it is not cheap, it might be a waste of money for you. Or, you might benefit greatly. I think this is the book CNN recommended HHDL ...

Re: Rigpa, example luminosity and direct introduction or pointing out instructions...
Interesting, so DI is not corresponding to stream entry and what it introduces, the knowledge of your own primordial state or condition, must still be possible to doubt, even after being directly introduced to it. Indeed, it does not correspond to stream entry. For some people there is still doubt ...

OP,
Can we infer from your screen name that you oppose the idea of finding or having a teacher?

Re: Rigpa, example luminosity and direct introduction or pointing out instructions...
My pleasure. Rigpa would be knowledge of your own primordial state or condition. If DI would correspond to Hinayana stream-entry and result in the complete removal of all doubt, Garab Dorje's second statement--to remove all doubt--would be superfluous. Even certain kind of Buddhas can fall back from...

Re: Rigpa, example luminosity and direct introduction or pointing out instructions...
Nice quote. I have the book and will look at it some more when I have time. For now, thus have I heard: the whole point of DI and Dzogchen practice is that normal, unrealized people can practice and become total Buddhas in one life. We don't need to be mahayana stream-enterers on the path of seeing ...

It might be good to keep in mind that chakra practices are prescriptive and not descriptive.

Re: Dzogchen and Lamdre
The view of emptiness is prasangika Madhyamaka for both Dzogchen and Lam Dre. The path is quite different. Sure, you can practice threkchod in combo with your Hevajra sadhana and some of the Hevajra practices are similar to semdzins. The problem comes when you don’t understand either tradition well ...

Do both until you feel it’s too much and then make a decision. You can also make an effort to meet some teachers from both traditions IRL and see how you feel after.

He’s a nice guy , I met him in Tso Pema over the course of years I lived there . Hung out with him at Rinpoché’s retreat, around Tso pema , etc.
Was he the one sitting near the little butter lamp offering shrine? He always seemed very nice.
