Re: bodhisattva vs bodhisatva
Good thing we have context to clarify the meaning of the term.

Re: Icelanders and their elves.
That your computer appears is not a fact. Ants don't see the computer you see. Cats don't see the computer you see, it's just a warm thing to lay on to a cat. If you were a being from a world made of supercritical matter, that computer would be thought of as a super cooled vapor. If you brought it t...

Re: Icelanders and their elves.
Have you all considered that you're experiencing a mass hallucination of things all the time and calling them real while calling the hallucinations of others bogus? Consider the fact that you are, right now, hallucinating an entire world system on top of undifferentiated space. This is your computer...

Re: Malas - what do you think?
Malas are useful. The expense and beauty of material doesn't matter; it will always be plain and unappealing compared to emptiness and compassion. The joy you get from possessions will always be inadequate. You can spend thousands of dollars on ritual items and it won't make you a better practitioner.

Re: Group mechanics - How to guide without forcing
The research is public and it was their responsibility to have at least general knowledge.
I think it would be easier to just make sure I'm in control and when people are wasting people's time by showboating, take them aside and tell them they lost their seat at the table and to get lost.

Re: Group mechanics - How to guide without forcing
Finally, don't assume that people who are no researchers don't have anything to contribute. In all teams you have people with a variety of competencies, views and personalities. They all have something important to contribute. And they will, if they are in an environment where they feel valued and ...

Group mechanics - How to guide without forcing
Sorry if I make typos. I'm very tired an have been writing up documents for conference. It's been a busy week so far. So the team I've been assigned to has many people of differing capacities, some people have done research and some haven't and so have more or less to contribute in meetings. We have...

Re: Recitation
Memorize in 2 ways. Memorize by rhythm. Memorize by outline. Memorize by rhythm is memorizing by the sequence of sounds, like memorizing a song where the rhythm indicates the place in the verses. Memorize by outline is memorizing by the outline of the root text you were given that explains the meani...

Re: where/how to get a robe?
Thai robes are just big sheets of fabric often. They can be really difficult to put on though, you will need a monk to tell you how.
Use white or grey sheets and take temporary 8 precepts when wearing them and there is no offense I can think of.

Re: Is nirvana an individual attainment?
Let's say that "I" am able to reach nirvana. "I" am free, but every "other" living being is still trapped in samsara... doesn't this suggest that "I" too am still trapped? I believe that all forms of life, like branches on a tree, grew from one original sourc...

Do you hold tantric vows from a valid unbroken lineage with samaya intact?
Because if not, it's really not fit to talk about with you.
Humor me if I don't acknowledge Tsem's samaya as intact.

Re: 50 Stanzas of Guru Devotion
Sometimes Guru devotion is used by cults to manipulate students. Sometimes these cult members post things about Guru devotion to try to guilt trip people into submission. Sometimes the Guru they post these things in reference to never had the qualities of a Guru and was just playing messiah. Sometim...

Re: VENERABLE DAGPO RINPOCHE
I don't know him personally, but I don't doubt what you say. People worshiping the ghost have no legitimate support today, so they used old stories to try to give validity to the practice that was literally tossed out as garbage by all of vajrayana. I remember seeing the garbage cans outside of Budd...

ghostites use this Rinpoche in part of their propaganda. They use the Dalai Lama similiarly, making it sound like he is supporting it secretly. Google the name Dagpo Rinpoche. It is part of the conversion process. Slowly they expose the person to more and more stories and mention these teachers prac...

Is it just me, or is Wan Wai Meng ( a student of Tsem Tulku) telling the origin story of the ghost from a perspective critical of the 5th to gain support for the ghost practice?
