Re: Is the nature of the mind cognizant of itself?
I'm trying to understand how cognizance has always been present as an inherent part of emptiness. If I'm not wrong, the mind essence Is empty and cognizant, these two things are inseparable. How comes that emptiness has this quality? This is well expressed by Krodha many years ago: "'Self lumi...

I'm trying to understand how cognizance has always been present as an inherent part of emptiness. If I'm not wrong, the mind essence Is empty and cognizant, these two things are inseparable. How comes that emptiness has this quality? You can’t really refer to “a part of emptiness”. Sunyata (what is...

Re: Is Frank Yang an arhat?
And finally if one wants to check whether someone is a true arahant, one should go by Buddha's criterias and checklists here https://suttacentral.net/mn112/en/sujato . The Buddha clearly laid out how one can determine and test whether someone is an arahant.

Re: Is Frank Yang an arhat?
There is a young fellow called Frank Yang who has made a certain amount of noise about having attained arhatship but his claims have struck some with skepticism. For example he makes a show of being very fond of leather Nike Air Jordan shoes and all this other kind of profane, nonspiritual stuff. Y...

Re: Sudden Awakening 101
In sum, sudden awakening simply refers to the realization of what we are and have been all along. It is the essential first step to authentic Zen practice. Sit down and direct your attention from what you are aware of to the very essence of awareness itself - this mind is Buddha. I agree it is an i...

Re: Sudden Awakening 101
. To recognize that objects of mind (phenomena, forms, dharmas) arise and cease endlessly, while mind itself neither arises nor ceases is not to deny the reality (Buddha-nature) of such objects – just the opposite in fact. It is, in truth, the very coming and going of all transient forms that allow...

Re: Help from Tara
Why would Tārā, she who protects from eight fears, ever wish the suffering of change upon anyone? In any case it is a misuse of the teachings. Falls under, "If one is attached to this life, one is not a dharma practitioner." Makes sense, but how should this be interpreted: 1.27 This will...

Re: Tight pressure in head
Recently i switched from awareness of object to awareness of awareness meditation. I’ve also started sitting in open awareness, looking in space, being aware of space around me in my room and expanding it. While sitting, there was an experience of pressure in my eyes and in my head. Whenever i sit,...

So you've had the traditional answer. One non-traditional one can be found in this blog though: https://awakeningtoreality.blogspot.com/ It's run by Soh Wei who used to post here, but hasn't in a few years, not sure if he still reads the forum. He claims to be enlightened, although acknowledges he'...

What we are talking about is whether realization is possible without having the specific conceptual frameworks of Buddhist dharma. I personally know of many people who have had prior experience working with the Vedanta path before coming to learn and contemplate and realize the Buddhadharma. They h...

Then we get a map like so: hyperspace > intelligence > conciousness > mind > egotistical duality > illusory viewpoint > intelligence cognetic of the self-expression of manifestations occurring within hyperspace eg it's experiencing itself. This is a very dualistic map to me. I was reminded of some ...

That quote from HHDL doesn't really back up your statement. What HHDL is saying is that thought, thinker and thinking are essentially the same thing. While the statement, "there is no such duality of perceiver and perceived" is true in one sense, what that means is that there is no "...
