No Satisfaction

During the warmer months I cold brew coffee the night before, usually two cups, so that I can enjoy iced coffee in the morning. On a rare occasion on Saturday night I might measure out three cups in order to have an extra glass on Sunday. It's funny because when I do that I realize three is too many...

Re: Can Transhumanism Overcome a Widespread Deathist Culture?

So what are transhumanists to do in a world where science and technology are quickly improving and will almost certainly overcome human mortality in the next 30 years? Will there be a great civil rights debate and clash around the world? Or will the deathist culture change, adapt, or even subside? ...

There's always the opportunity to direct one's focus on the corrupted aspects or the more enlightened. Among many documented amazing reincarnations, Dudjom Rinpoche's discovery in Pemako is fairly modern and quite miraculous.

I was able to stop smoking a few years back when I got a horrible toothache. Make use of any catastrophe that befalls you, and then simply don't start again.

Re: The Role of Shamatha/Vipaysana in Dzogchen

Here is a new clip of BAW addressing this issue for those who want to hear it from the horse's mouth, so to speak: https://youtu.be/0zHFQ-MBvRw TLDR: He claims that there are extremely rare genius-level practitioners who might not need to "achieve" shamatha, but for everyone else it is nec...

Re: What is enlightenment?

As previously mentioned, enlightenment is a Western term not found in original sources. Perhaps look into the etymology of terms actually used in Buddhism. Here is a link to get you started:

Re: Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche online reading transmission of the 17 Dzogchen Tantras

I also must give thanks to all responsible for making this transmission possible. Like some others noted in this thread, somehow amazingly my schedule matched the dates and times when at any other time of the year it would not have. Truly auspicious. May it benefit all mother beings.

Re: Difference between GR mantra and 7-line Prayer

Thanks for your reply linking to the previous thread on this same topic. My curiosity was satisfied. I will look into the White Lotus book, which is already on my list - along with so many others! Yes, I have joined in the online accumulation since I became aware of it a few months ago. Thanks for t...

Difference between GR mantra and 7-line Prayer

The words mantra and prayer are self-evidently different, but what does that imply? What is the meaning of the difference between a mantra and a prayer? What about the results? Other differences?

New Fangled Roller-coasters

I recently experienced these new fangled roller-coasters in which you don't actually travel anywhere. The seat remains in pretty much the same location and only leans in different directions to stimulate the illusion of significant movement. The main element of this roller-coaster is a large movie s...

Re: Helping animals in Vajrayana

Thanks for this thread. I want to add that the opportunity to save worms arises fairly often if you're on the lookout. When they get into areas like sidewalks with high foot traffic you can relocate them to safer areas. It can also be a lesson in humility if there are others around observing as you ...

I'll take a stab at it. I'm a lay Buddhist in my mid-40s. 1.How do Buddhist beliefs of the afterlife morals, practices and everyday life of Buddhists? Avoiding negative actions and embracing positive actions, which are explicitly enumerated in Buddhism, are undertaken for the twofold goal of achievi...
