Please forgive my ignorance, but what is the 10 x 10 method?
Thank you.

Re: The Beginning of Zen/Chan in China.
The yi jin jing (muscle/tendon changing classic) has been dated to the 17th century by historians. Bodhidharma did not write it.
I do wonder why this particular myth is so well perpetuated. It's an entertaining story I suppose.

Re: Qi Gong reading recommendations
If one is really serious about learning and practising qigong, eventually studying the classic Huangdi Neijing is a must: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huangdi_Neijing It will also equip you with telling genuine qigong schools/methods from the not-so-genuine ones. Good luck with that! A high degree...

Re: Qi Gong reading recommendations
Strong words there, especially as Chia is quite well-regarded by many, even over on the highly critical site of The Dao Bums, and I did say the book was for those looking to read deeper into theory. Another option is the books and videos by Dr. Yang, Jwing-ming. Personally I am practitioner of the s...

Re: Qi Gong reading recommendations
There are a myriad of practices and guides. Usually, for people starting out, I recommend The Way of Energy by Lam Kam Chuen. It's an easy read, simple to follow and doesn't bog the reader down with too much theory. If you want something more in depth then you could try The Healing Light of the Tao ...

Re: New Zealand Flag Referendum
I'm a Brit living in New Zealand and I found the whole referendum rather perplexing, much in the same way as the periodical republican referendum that the Australians like to indulge in. It should also be noted that the NZ flag pre-dates the Australian one, so if anyone should be changing their flag...

Re: Sky-Burial Tourism
My apologies if my posts on this thread led to offence being taken. I am a very practical person at heart. Disposal of the dead for me has always been just a practical matter, and seen as little more than a natural part of life's procession. I understand that others do not see it this way and again ...

Re: Sky-Burial Tourism
I have spent a sizable portion of my life (about 20 years) up to my armpits in death and decay. It is a beautifully economic thing, and quite fascinating. To see the utility of death in the service of life is wonderful. Sorry, I am not saying that people should go and laugh at these things, just tha...

Re: Unfortunate accident
Thank you for the prayers. It is much appreciated. So, an update. There is good news and bad news, in a sense. My sister has recovered well from the surgical complications - still under observation of course. She has boundless optimism, unrealistic optimism really, that she will be weight bearing on...

Re: Meditation in Nature
A couple of weeks ago I was in the garden practising - taijiquan and so on - and at the end of my exertions I stood in the centre of the lawn for a moment before sinking into a cross-legged seated position. Automatically I began anapanasati. It was early evening. Time passed. Cats entered the garden...

Re: Unfortunate accident
It is 6:30 am Monday here. I have just received a call telling me that my sister has been revived from induced sleep and that the ventilator will be removed soon. At this time she does not seem to recognise anyone. The doctor says this is quite common in such circumstances and is cautiously optimist...

Unfortunate accident
I am hesitant to raise this matter and the attendant request, but have few other options available. This morning (Sunday 17th) I was informed that my younger sister was crushed against wall by a motor vehicle. She suffered fracture to her femur (thigh) on one leg, and both lower leg bones in the oth...

Re: Antinatalism and Renunciation
Anyway, I'm not really interested in discussing the topic anymore, because people in general just aren't willing to have an intelligent conversation about it. Glad a few people are willing to think about it though. 1. Thank you for letting me know that I am unintelligent. I was beginning to wonder,...

Re: Antinatalism and Renunciation
As far as I can recall there are no historical cases where limiting births, either through personal choice or state decree, has had a positive effect overall. If you can name one then please do so. The biological imperative to procreate is hard wired into most creatures (including us). https://en.w...

Jesse, I don't know how to ask this with any real skill or gentleness so I am going to plunge in and hope the water isn't full of sharks. What precisely is the purpose of this thread? What is your expected outcome?

Re: Yi Jing Jing excersises
Long time Yi Jin Jing practitioner here. The authenticity of these exercises is open to much debate, and as such there are many variations - both subtle and otherwise. Having said that, they are truly excellent exercises for maintaining good body tone, improving balance and finding a little peace! F...
