Re: Looking for a specific story about the preciousness of Dharma
I believe the story was about one of the past lives of Shakayamuni Buddha, but I am not sure. However, I found something similar in The Jewel Ornament of Liberation by Gampopa ( https://www.amnyitrulchung.org/teachings/materials/pdf/Gampopa%20-%20Jewel%20Ornament%20of%20Liberation%20-%20Complete.pdf...

Hi Hazel,
It's just a pain to remember all the 0's .
I used that username years ago and I just feel like changing it now.
Thank you for the suggestion!

Looking for a specific story about the preciousness of Dharma
I vaguely recall a story of a Bodhisattva jumping to his death for just one line or verse of Dharma.
Am I remembering this right? Can anyone recall the story or provide a link?
Thank you

Hello again; Is there a way to change user name?
Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I last posted on DharmaWheel, but I would like to ask a question and share something in the coming days/weeks.
It's nice to be back .
My first question is: Is there a way for me to change my user name?

How to move from selfishness to happiness
Why is it that we ordinarily seek happiness through selfishness? Just looking at oneself and forgetting how one's actions affect others? It's not like one doesn't want to consider others, but the general feeling is that there may not be enough capacity to consider everyone. It's like you're dealing ...

Re: Favorite Secular Quotes
Not my favorite quote, but something that's been stuck in my mind for years & makes me wonder: whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer or to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them? Here's another one by Shakespeare: The quality of mercy is not strained, It droppeth as the ...

Re: Auspicious birdhouse
Okay, so here are a couple of photographs. Please don't laugh, it's my first time :) Unfortunately the job was a bit rushed. It wasn't too hard to engrave the letters with a scalpel. Despite tracing pencil-drawn letters, the thickness of lines was not always easy to control. Because of this, I unint...

Re: Auspicious birdhouse
Are you sure birds like paint? I actually engraved the mantras in wood....after I painted it :). I'm not sure if birds like paint. I don't see why they wouldn't like it. I guess we'll just put them up and check. Sorry for not having posted the pictures yet. I wanted to work on the houses a little m...

Auspicious birdhouse
My dad bought little birdhouses & I would like to paint stuff on them. Any ideas on how to make them auspicious? I was thinking of including a Chenrezig mantra by the entrance, but it is quite long, so I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Would OM be enough? The endless knot....a pair of fish (p...

Re: How to eliminate self-cherishing?
SeekerNo1000003, I’m not sure I understand what you’re trying to get at. It seems like you’re asking whether there’s any way to overcome self-cherishing other than a deep realization of dependent arising. But maybe you're asking how to go about overcoming self-cherishing. I think that working on ou...
