Re: Learning names of the mudras (Nyingma) - can you help me name them?
My perspective is that mudras are part of secret mantra, and are to be learned from one's guru. Different lineages, and even sub-lineages, have varying mudras. These are learned by "Visual transmission," really. Just to be clear, I know the mudras for multiple sadhanas from multiple linea...

Re: The concept of a root guru
I have been researching the concept of a root guru and whether it even makes sense. An example is the subjectivity in defining the root guru, as a quote from the fixed topic of this forum section: According to the traditions of Sakya, Gelug and Jonang, a root guru is anyone from whom one has receiv...

Re: Favourite Professional Sports
Rugby vs American Football is like bare-knuckle vs gloved boxing. Without gloves, you can't hit too hard: you'll break your hand. American Football allows players to use their helmet-covered heads as weapons, while in Rugby, trying to use your helmetless head in that way would quickly get you throw...

Re: Why are DharmaWheel and DhammaWheel separated?
Also, losing Malcom was truly a substantial loss, but there are 16,000 people here. Isn't it enough minds to keep the forum active and figure out each topic being asked? Maybe... However not all these people post and Malcolm's knowledge was beyond compare. Btw I hope you mutsuk change your mind and...

Re: Favourite Professional Sports
Do you see the same rate of CTE in rugby? One of the criticisms of gridiron football is that the helmet incentivizes the use of the head as a weapon. This leads to a ton of subconcussive head injuries, which seem to add up to long-term brain damage. The NFL has tried to reduce hits to (headhunting)...

Re: Favourite Professional Sports
Cons: Injuries. NFL football is perhaps the most dangerous team sport with numerous injuries. I take it you haven't watched much Rugby! That's right, I haven't watched much rugby. I have seen a few matches (on tv) and it looks pretty interesting; very different from NFL but in some ways it's simila...

I think many people here would disagree with you, respectfully :anjali: This is precisely my point, eh? I am afraid you may have misunderstood me: 1. You said "I am unripe" 2. I said "many people would disagree" - meaning that many people on this forum would see you as ripe (inc...

Re: Dzogchen practice in Dorje Drolo cycle
In this 5 root practice what would mean enlightened activity of Dakini Mandarava? She is usually connected to longevity practices, would it same be here? i don't know. that would highly likely be the case, but if we only do accomplishment for Dorje Drolö and we don't do accomplishment for each of t...

I would have to review, but I believe it would be based on the volume in SheJa Dzo known in English as "Frameworks of Buddhist Philosophy."

I am unripe I think many people here would disagree with you, respectfully :anjali: This is precisely my point, eh? But you are right, most of us (me especially) are unripe. I just defined it for the purpose of the poll in a way that allow people to vote "ripe", in the least strict way po...

Re: POLL: What type of mango-practitioner are you (as per "Letter to a friend" verse 20)?
How can I know how I appear to others? Sometimes, at Dharma Centers, maybe I wear Shamgyur and zen, and seem to know what I am doing in rituals, etc. Sometimes I sit there and say nothing, wearing regular clothes…. I am unripe, as are we all. Yakking about advanced practices on the internet…..we’re ...

Re: Was karmamudra part of ganachakra in the ancient India?
Anyway, I think there is a mixing up between yoga of passion and karmamudra in some of earlier discussions. The former is a post meditation and less formal practice for tantric couple in a solid relationship while the latter requires a great deal of preparation and in some cases, permission from on...

Re: Three isolations of body, speech, mind - what are those?
Just to be clear, the post above is a condensation from Kongtrul’s writing. I have not been taught these systems and do not practice them, so I am not claiming any special knowledge. But there is some overlap, of course, with the methods of other Sarma systems of Dzogrim—so you can have a General un...

Re: Three isolations of body, speech, mind - what are those?
The "three isolations" originated from Arya commentarial tradition of guhyasamaja by Nagarjuna, it's doxography of completion stage and the five paths unique to Gelug. And there were attempts from gelug to synchronise and mapped onto other cycles of practices. For more information, you ca...
