Re: My last will and testament
I don't think that restricted books on dzogchen and mahamudra belong in a prison library.

Re: My last will and testament
I have the same issue. I'm about to turn 82 and am concerned that my many dharma books, thankas, etc will end up in Goodwill because my adult daughter doesn't share my appreciation. I'd like to donate them to a dharma center, but I have no local sangha in this ***** town and can no longer drive any ...

Re: Mixing teachings/lineages advice?
I've never been a collector of empowerments, but I've had quite a few over the years. Once my youthful enthusiasm had died down a bit, after 20 or so years , I found that I was more focused doing the practices I'd been given by my root lama and under the Karma Kamtsang umbrella.

Thrangu Rinpoche's passing
Rinpoche has been my main teacher since I first met him in 1989 and although his passing makes me sad, I think he accomplished everything he came here to do. Early in our relationship he told me a little story that I treasure: He said that when he was still quite young, he asked the 16th Karmapa, &q...

Thanks JD. Olympia is pretty far away, but you're always welcome to stop by if you're in B'ham.

Looking for Other Practitioners in Bellingham WA
The title of this post says it: I've lived in this town for almost eight years and haven't found anyone to practice with.

Re: Has the Chöd practice become almost obsolete in modern times?
In a long-ago community meeting in Boulder someone asked Trungpa Rinpoche if practicing chod in cemetery on University Hill would be charnel ground practice. "Just go work in a hospital", CTR replied--'that's a real charnel ground". I took him at his word, went back to school for a co...

Re: How do we accumulate millions of mantras?
I've been doing the same daily sadhana practice for 20+ years. Basically, you just show up, sit on your cushion and go for it without worrying about numbers or results. It's a process and you may find in time that the yidam is not just part of you, but your true identity.

Thanks. I've checked it out and registered for the retreat. However, it surprises me that none of my teachers up to now have said anything like, "listen, you really need to do this".

Amitabha Pure Land Practice
I've practiced HYT for decades, but until very recently I'd never heard that Pure Land practice is essential. Now that I'm 80 y/o I'm inclined to take this advice more seriously. https://www.andrewholecek.com/pure-land-buddhism/ I have great respect for Andrew and was surprised to learn that I'd uni...

I was "Silent Bob" in a previous incarnation here, then forgot my revised user name, "Walter Sobchak", and was unable to log on for couple of years, until I remembered it yesterday. I'm 74 y/o and have been practicing since 1974. My first teacher was Trungpa Rinpoche, whom I stu...

Two hours of sadhana practice after mid-day, rarely changing the script except to substitute Guru Rinpoche practice on the appropriate day.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but Chime Pakme Nyinthik is a terma and not really equivalent to the White Tara of Atisha's tradition. Re: Mingyur Rinpoche's White Tara
I'm a student of Mingyur Rinpoche's and have received his White Tara empowerment, which is nearly identical to the WT of Situ Tenpe Nyinche's that has been my daily practice for two decades. They are both annutara practices from the Atisha tradition, Mingyur R's sadhana being somewhat more concise. ...
