Re: Restricted Publications-An Effective or Ineffective Tact

I was actually referring to SofB's description of book costs more than anything. It seems that this became a thread dedicated to a different topic since my last post.

Re: Zabmo Nangdon to be published by Shambhala

One of the reasons that Sanskrit titles are included at the beginning of Tibetan translations of Indian texts is to remind the reader of the kindness of the translators. This notion seems to be lost in the fray of these discussions about the cost of Dharma books. Elizabeth Callahan has been working ...

Though both Jikan and Dzogchungpa make good points, I actually just used snagit to grab the picture of the back cover of his namthar, hence the TBRC sticker in the upper right hand corner.

Pema, I think we're talking about the same person. This happened in 1958 and was witnessed by a crowd of Tibetans and, of course, the soldiers (check out Dzogchungpa's link and here's his profile on TBRC http://tbrc.org/#!rid=P6306" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" oncli...

Re: Phowa

Dragon, While there are numerous reports of Lamas who left their bodies by phowa rather than being executed by the Chinese and thus their executioners reaping huge bad karma, there is at least one story of a Tibetan Dzogchenpa who did actually fly away when he was being led to prison. I forget His ...

Re: How Tibetans really feel about the occupation

Repeatedly? Really? All I see you repeatedly doing is downplaying the suffering of Tibetans and acting as a spin doctor for the Chinese gov't. And the fact that you're being called out for this on a thread titled "How TIBETANS really feel about the occupation" some how makes me a Tibetan n...

Re: How Tibetans really feel about the occupation

I know a European couple that ran a hotel in Lhasa for many years, not sure if they still do, but they had lots of first hand experience with this sort of thing. For one, every hotel and guest house has at least two watchers posted their to keep an eye on, i.e. follow guests. And I'm just talking ab...

Re: New China map shows Arunachal Pradesh as part of Tibet

Nonsense, MOST monks do not have smart phones. This is an absurd exaggeration and there's no way for you to know it, even if they did. In fact the majority of monks are elementary school age children that don't have many possessions at all. And $100 a month is a very repectable salary for Nepalis li...

Re: New China map shows Arunachal Pradesh as part of Tibet

The only people benefiting from Chinese involvement in Nepal are Nepali politicians. All of the "public" works projects being undertaken by the Chinese gov't exclusively use Chinese labor and the hydro and road projects are intended to benefit China, not Nepal. The trade between the two co...

Re: Dudjom tersar Ngondro Prerequisite

So what you actually received was the wangs and lungs for the collected works of Dudjom Lingpa. However, Yangsi omitted about three volumes of lungs, mostly the Dzogchen instructions, and the wangs associated with the Protectors. So from what you got, you would be able to begin the Khandro Nyingthig...

Re: Buddha or Bodhisattva appearing in dreams

In the Tibetan tradition dreams are often referred to as being "double delusions," so for the most part they are not of much consequence. However there are long lists of signs of progress that can appear in one's dreams in relation to specific practices, just as there are lists of negative...

Re: Thrinley Nyingpo Practice from Chokling tersar

You can get the texts in the library, but you'll need to order them in advance of the drupchen. They have a transliterated version prepared, if you can't read Tibetan, but the librarian, Kathy, will need time to make a photo copy for you, because she usually attends the drupchen, which means she won...

Re: What chöd does Lama Wangdu practice?

The monks at his monastery do the Khandro Gyegang (Longchen Nyingthig) every evening and the rinchen drengwa on dakini days. Not sure about his daily personal practice, but I know he has given empowerments and instructions, including the dance, on the Khandro Gyegang on numerous occasions. However, ...

Is the tulku system too exclusive?

No Chatral Rinpoche was not formally involved with the recognition of Dudjom Yangsi. Yes, he supported the recognition and took Yangsi as a student, but if you look at the long life prayer he wrote, he says that because the important nyingma lamas recognized him he went along with it.

Re: Definition of Yangsi vs. Tulku

Because these terms are most commonly used synonymously in the case of the reincarnations of major lamas. Dudjom Yangsi, Khyentse Yangsi, etc. are all considered Tulkus, because the latter term is more commonly used for the rebirth of great masters than it is for full blown nirmanakaya emanations of...

Re: Yangsi Penor Rinpoche found!

So a couple interestings side notes to this: 1. This is the first time ever that Chatral Rinpoche has been involved with the recognition of a tulku. Though he actually only gave the date and area of the birth, the rest was worked out by Thubten Palzang. 2. It was predetermined that they would keep P...
