Re: Dharma Wheel (Engaged)
I registered yesterday and haven't seen any altright views yet. They are there. Not nearly as much as in dhammawheel though it seems. Just the fact that Retrofuturist has registered himself under the username SethRich and has a conspiracy site in his tagline is enough for me to never ever register ...

Re: Looking ahead...(split from ZFI topic)
Hi jinglebell (what was your previous nik?) Yes, I agree. Although I was never on the E-Sangha staff, I remember a great deal of displeasure and censure of things like a modern Zen understanding of "monk", notions like post-mortem rebirth and permanent nirvana and the like. Truth be told,...

CTR (In politically incorrect mode) "I visited one of my students in a mental hospital..he was depressed. A lot of the other patients were psychotic, shouting and waving their arms, wildly or muttering. Don't kid yourself you are any different..you just don't do it out loud". I can 100% i...

Re: Zen Space Forum down hard?
I have the same problem boda said he had in the now locked thread. I can register, but don't receive the activation email, even after having it resent. Maybe it's a problem with the mail config pointing to the mail server of the old provider? I've sent an email to the admin through the board, but it...

I had the same problem until today. I just registered, so hopefully it's fixed for you too now. Thanks Meido!WontonCarter wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2018 10:34 pm Getting a "The solution you provided was incorrect" notice on the registration page.

Re: Dunning-Kruger Effect
I'd say this effect is operative for all of us in areas we are unskilled in. From my experience it's especially operative for people who really do excel in a specific area.
And as for being unpleasant to be around and constantly lecturing people.. Say no more, say no more!

Re: Buddha is an Ordinary Fellow
And then of course we see all the blundering and errors of Zen masters in the west, people who have been declared by their lineage to be Buddhas. What can we possibly think of such a thing? Are Tibetan buddhist masters exempt from criticism on the same grounds? Of course not. This is a problem of a...

Re: Anarchist Buddhist teachers, present and past?
I think that Dharma is good for personal evolution, but we do not inhabit a world of Dharma practitioners, and Dharma ethics do not translate to those who do not follow the Dharma. Therefore, we need to develop robust, positive secular understandings and doctrines and as Dharma practitioners, advoc...

It was my understanding that he owned the thing. But you've clarified that, as has somebody in PM. Urgyen Dorje, Simon E. is not an administrator nor a moderator on this forum. He's just a user, like you and I. And what he has posted here is just a suggestion to the management. That's what this sub...

Re: Do you believe that love is "samsaric"?
My response was to boda's remark that Buddhas appear monstrous because of their equanimity in the face of life's suffering. Now at that time a certain monk was sick with dysentery. He lay fouled in his own urine & excrement. Then the Blessed One, on an inspection tour of the lodgings with Ven. ...

Re: Mahamudra in the Modern World
Yes he does, but I think you might be missing the context he is teaching them in. Again, i'd recommend Indestructible Truth. It's a good book by itself, but you will see, his worldview is that of a Vajrayana practitioner (actually, same could be said for some of those that you mention above, despit...

Ah, but the reason he gives ( undoing pre-lingual trauma ) is not so traditional. That and his Trungpa story about going far enough in spiritual practice that there is no going back anymore, but Trungpa not caring about the tradition (Christian, Sufi, what have you ), which is also quite untraditio...

Doesn't seem odd to me, it seems to be accepted that people don't need to be scholars to attain realization. However, what he didn't say is that people don't need a Dharma education, and i'm guessing he wouldn't. It seems to be a criticism of how education in Dharma is approach by some traditionali...

This kind of sums up my attitude: As a bee seeks nectar from all kinds of flowers, seek teachings everywhere. Like a deer that finds a quiet place to graze, seek seclusion to digest all you have gathered. Like a lion, live completely free of all fear. And, finally, like a madman, beyond all limits,...
