Re: Questions on the Benefits of Meditation

All, I have been a mediator of twenty years in different styles of meditation from chanting to silent awareness. After this time, I have grown some benefit slowly to being more loving, kind and patient but still feel negative emotions at times when I grow impatient with people or feel upset at rand...

Re: Can meditation be bad?

I remember some study saying that sometimes meditation on mindfulness can be bad because some people will start to give to much attention to stuff happening in their bodies and freak out with it. I mean, in the context of that study they were refering to attention to pain for example.

Re: 5 minute meditations?

I am very interested in meditation but find the practice difficult to initiate as a newcomer. I'm a very negative and agitated person, and also suffer from light/moderate tinnitus. Simply sitting down still seems like a daunting prospect let alone listening to a dreadful buzz in my head. This I usu...

Re: Human-like beings in Buddhist cosmology

According to many testemonies of ufo cases, etc, the occupants can have a variety of shapes, but some of them look like humans. Some even say that they "walk among us". I am not asking you to believe, accept or whateve any of these. What I ask is if there are things in buddhist cosmology ...

Re: Human-like beings in Buddhist cosmology

Intelligent species on another planet would probably fall under the same category as manussa loka (humans) in the cosmology. Even though they are not human, they are similar in that they are the dominant, most intelligent species on their planet. https://www.dhammawiki.com/index.php?title=31_planes...

Re: Human-like beings in Buddhist cosmology

IF we were to accept such cases as real, how could we explain them in light of buddhist cosmology? What exactly do you mean by “real”? My objective is not debate that...by real, I mean "normal" real. Just that. Anyway, real or not, the question here is if gods and demi gods from buddhist ...

Re: Reincarnation cases not following the Buddhist model

For moderation team: if it makes any sense, I would suggest the merge of this topic with my topic here:

I think that the debate is very similar, but this is just a suggestion.

Re: Breath meditation vs space meditation

I can’t for the life of me meditate using my breath as an object. The breath starts putting on an act, it becomes too shallow, i don’t notice it, or i start huffing and puffing like a bull, and all the naturalness goes out of my sitting practice. I find the practice narrow. I’ve sat for about a yea...

Re: Reincarnation cases not following the Buddhist model

Those familiar with the works of Dr. Ian Stevenson will probably recall several cases where the presumed previous incarnation died less than 9 months prior to the birth of the subject in question. From The European Cases of the Reincarnation Type: - Marja Liisa Kaartinen - her previous reincarnatio...

Re: Question: Reencarnation with years of break

There are NDE's (near death experiences) from Thailand, for example. They are quite interesting: Near-Death Experiences in Thailand; Todd Murphy, San Francisco, CA https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc799340/m2/1/high_res_d/vol19-no3-161.pdf JOURNAL OF NEAR-DEATH STUDIES Four of my ten ...

Re: Question: Reencarnation with years of break

In the books of Ian Stevenson there are cases in which the period between lives is several years. In the buddhist view the persons have probably been born as devas. Why not, for heavens sake!? The times passes differently in the deva realms; five, eight or nine human years is a much longer time in ...

Re: Breath meditation vs space meditation

Hi Schuberty! Try Silent Meditation from Venerable Master Sheng Yen. You are just aware of your body, not the breath. Thats my favourite form of meditation, altought sometimes I use breath meditation, specially when I feel I need more focus.

Re: Question: Reencarnation with years of break

Interesting opinions so far, thanks for sharing. Do you - any of you - know if there is something about this in buddhist scriptures. I think there is something regarding 49 days as max time in bardo, but never read about years in bardo or just remembering memorys from other lives but not the immedia...

Re: Question: Reencarnation with years of break

The idea that they were animals in between was what I tought too.
About the reencarnation ocuring only years....well, what happened to the stream of consciousness during that time? But its a possible explanation too.

Question: Reincarnation with years of break

I was seeing the documentary series of Leslie Kean, Surviving Deathm when I saw again the cases of children remembering past lives. The strange thing is that the time between death and rebirth was years (9 years in one case, maybe decades on other). How can that be possible and explainable according...

Re: What to do when someone feels drowned in numerous Bad Karmic Actions?

I have this idea that the mantra "Om vajra sattva hung" was good to purify karma. Check more about that mantra or search for purification mantras.
