Re: Order of Buddhist Contemplatives

Wow. Some of the comments on this board are just plain rude and small/narrow minded. Really, is it really truly impossible that anyone has ever had past lives and visions come up while training deeply? I think not. It does not really matter who has had these things happen (and it matters less about ...

Jikan~ Ah, well I will not presume to tell you how you feel. They are, after all, your emotions. However they do play an important role in what you are trying to get across. As someone once said, who was more familiar with politics, and therefore experienced in the art of communication, A spoonful o...

Re: Who gets to comment on what? Why should I listen?

Criticism is one of those things that can be used to tear down and destroy. Is it any wonder then that some try to insulate themselves from such a weapon? It is a natural reaction, out of fear of pain that is observed in these groups. Perhaps even a justifiable reaction. One must take care with crit...

Re: Who gets to comment on what? Why should I listen?

We can agree to disagree with others and still have compassion for them. I would like for you to define "compassion" as you keep using this word, but to quote the Venerable Rev. Master Inigo Montoya: "You keep using that word but I do not think it means what you think it means."...

Re: Sex Taboo's & applying Christianized thinking in Western

Should we have compassion for anyone who makes mistakes - including teachers, Zen priests, and murderers? Of course. Does this mean that we ought to abandon the act of making moral judgements? Of course not. The prajna of Zen does not imply the absence of discrimination. It implies a form of discri...

Re: Sex Taboo's & applying Christianized thinking in Western

Sexuality is a natural human function. It is a part of every human being and has been for as long as we have called ourselves humans. And, for just as long people have tried to control this deeply primal need in various ways. Our history is full of what to do regarding sex and what not to do, what i...

Re: Is ignorance just the dimness of awareness?

Ignorance is a term used when someone is unknowing of something. For instance an old man may look at a child and say ignorance is bliss. This implies that the child does not yet know about life. It is also used when someone is perceived to be less educated or less intelligent than someone else. What...

Re: Meeting spirits in real life

In the Lankavatara, the spirits are apparently Buddhas. This should be taken literally from what I can tell. “Then, Mahamati, sustained by the power of the Buddhas, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas at their first stage will attain the Bodhisattva-Samadhi, known as the Light of Mahayana, which belongs to...

Re: Meeting spirits in real life

It is possible that there are Buddhist spirits. However I would take whatever a spirit says to you with a grain of salt. They can be extremely helpful or they can lead you into quite a lot of trouble. Usually it is the latter of the two. Be careful and try not to get into some kind of spirit worship...

Re: Falling asleep

Are you getting to bed at a reasonable time? How about going to bed a bit early? Sometimes our bodies are stressed, and it is a good idea to make sure your body is getting the rest it needs. Also take a look at what you put into your body. How you eat directly relates to it's performance including h...
