Re: How would you translate "Good perseverance / diligence" into Tibetan?

Hello Jacobcz If you don't know the Tibetan, there are often ways of finding out. In this case, I just searched "paramitas wikipedia". The result gave me the Tibetan and Wylie for the 4th paramita, which I then checked at https://www.thlib.org/reference/dictionaries/tibetan-dictionary/tran...

Re: Seeking advice from Tergar's "JOL" practitioners

Hello! I have a certain affinity, from my intellectual understanding, for open awareness meditation, but one that focuses on mental states, trying to see craving, aversion, or distraction in the mind. Welcome to DW Saan. :hi: I think the answer is probably that the course is not focussed on the pra...

Re: Classical Tibetan language resources

Yes, that's it. Of course, there are many Tibetan language resources on YouTube, but I think this one is good. Another resource I've used is https://www.nettletibetan.ca/introduction-to-classical-tibetan. I've worked with the class vocabulary set not just to learn words, but also to work on pronunci...

Re: Tsok vs Puja vs Drupcho & Drupchen

Thanks for the extra info, Cone. The word Puja seems to come from Sanskrit. Is it just one of those words that is transliterated directly from Sanskrit to Tibetan? How is it written in uchen?

Re: Tsok vs Puja vs Drupcho & Drupchen

Thanks a lot, Cone. This is very helpful.

The thing that causes the main confusion to me is that it seems like a puja can also be done as an elaborate group practice.

Tsok vs Puja vs Drupcho & Drupchen

There are various ritual practices in Tibetan buddhism, and I can look up explanations for each, but it occurs to me that I don't know why the different names and how the purpose of each is distinguished. Are the ones that I've listed the main ones? Can someone explain please?

Do both until you feel it’s too much and then make a decision. You can also make an effort to meet some teachers from both traditions IRL and see how you feel after. :good: As someone relatively knew to the study of Tibetan Buddhism, what are your thoughts on studying with the two schools simultane...

Re: Please advise: Longchen Nyingthik Ngöndro Lung

The only thing I'm battling to reconcile is Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche's extremely political posts on his Facebook page. I've watched his teachings on YouTube and he seems phenomenal, his teachings are amazing, but then you look at his Facebook page... He has a strong anti-western sentiment in many...

Re: Please advise: Longchen Nyingthik Ngöndro Lung

If Dzongsar Khyentse falls through, Pema Chophel would definitely do. I think this is something of an understatement. :D If it's the practice that one of the Ngondro Gar instructors gives the lung, I suggest that you request it from Jakob Leschly. Jakob was a direct student of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoc...

Re: Please advise: Longchen Nyingthik Ngöndro Lung

Welcome to DW. :hi: Obtaining the lung from a dzogchen teacher, as you may be aware, is just part of the story. Ideally, you want to obtain it from a lama you know to be reputable and with whom you feel a real connection. Once you have the lung you'll need support and guidance to undertake the ngönd...

Re: New Colloquial Tibetan Book

There is a new book in town. Dawa Tsering’s “Colloquial Tibetan Grammar Book: Volume 1” is the new best book on spoken Tibetan, in my opinion. The good news is that Namse Bangdzo is now stocking this book! https://www.namsebangdzo.com/Colloquial-Tibetan-Grammar-Book-Dawa-Tsering-p/9781948203388.htm...

Re: Prayer for mom's leg

We live in the most segregated city and it's not one time that we found ourselves victims of reversed discrimination. My grandfather passed away from a stroke he had in the bus because the public picked on his little English. We'd like to say we're getting used to these, but it is not so. We're imm...

Re: Looking for an online lama and sangha

Hello friends, I'm new to the dharma and looking for an online lama and sangha to start with. I'm based in North Africa and unfortunately there is no Dharma here at all, hence why I'm asking for an online start. I resonate with the kagyu lineage and the mahasiddhas, I love the stories of Saraha, Mi...
