Re: Is sex considered vulgar to Buddhists?
Buddhavacana (word[s] of the Buddha) from the Cūḷasīla of the Brahmajāla Sutta: It is, bhikkhus, only to trifling and insignificant matters, to the minor details of mere moral virtue, that a worldling would refer when speaking in praise of the Tathāgata. And what are those trifling and insignifican...

Re: Is the truth about Buddha in your actual consciense?
"Followers of other religions have Faith as well, but they use their Faith to blind themselves to the fact that they are fooling themselves, their "Faith" is nothing more than delusions. Faith in the truth is more akin to knowing, at least in my perspective." I believe this might...

Re: Forgetting who you were
Brahm Meditation is the book.
So we should be mindful of the past as a memory comes into our minds, but not watch the memory? Just notice it and let it pass?

Forgetting who you were
I'm reading a new book on meditation, and I read that it is wise to let go of all past experiences, to bury them to be forever forgotten. Does this include all memories good and bad? Should we forget who we were, to become who we are? Is that the meaning behind the idea?

"Perhaps those who say such things are your teachers."
I'm learning more from this forum and it's contributers than I have learned in my entire life from any teacher, I love education and thrive on it, but this spiritual education is immeasurably more important and profound to me.

"But the very fact that you're on the path means that there's a teacher somewhere"
I don't think there was a better combination of words to reinvigorate me.

Buddhism without a teacher
Am I wrong in my decision to meditate without needing, or seeking an end goal as my reward? When I began meditating it was simply to be there in that moment, to sit, for no other reason but to sit and focus on my breath, not considering whether or not it will make me happier. I try not to turn medit...

Re: Loneliness and Buddhism
I apologize if my post garnered any sort of ill feelings, I did not mean it to be a self-pity party, It truly is not my intention, I know I present an excuse for every circumstance in which I might be happy. But my present moment reality is that I live in a town ranked #5 worst in Canada, I am not s...

Re: How do gay Buddhists explain this one?
I'm wondering if this will hold any significance for anyone. Say you were born blind, try to imagine not having ever seen a man or a woman, never experiencing beauty any which way other than in a persons personality and spirit. Try to let go of any preconcieved notion of what is beautiful and what i...

Re: Why did you choose Buddhism?
It might sound cheesy, but I really didn't choose Buddhism, it chose me. I was a drug addict, and at the end of my rope, my last days, I had accepted the possibility that I would more than likely soon be ending my life. At the time I knew nothing about Buddhism, and thought it was a joke really and ...

Re: Pleasure and feelings
So we can enjoy everything and feel everything aslong as we dont get attached to it? Can we desire certain things and feelings as long as we arent getting attached to them or the result? I think the problem with this would be that there is no desire (for happiness or pleasure) that a person can fee...

Thank you very much Lobster, this actually means more to me than you will ever know. I feel a far greater responsibility to pursue mindfulness again. You've reminded me why I started meditating in the first place.

Loneliness and Buddhism
You can skip to the end, and just read the question if you'd like, I only added the rest to give an idea of why I'm asking the question. When I first got into Buddhism was during a time I was addicted to amphetamine and drugs in general, I watched a Siguor Ros music video, and felt something strange...

Shouldn't this answer itself? I'm not being rhetorical, I am actually wondering, does Buddhism not make it clear at it's core that whether you are a homosexual or not is irrelevant? That only sexually molesting, or offending others strays you from the path of the Buddha? It seems very easy to unders...
