Re: Suicide and Murder
Suicide is rarely trying to coerce the other. Rather it is seen as the only option. If someone is lost in suffering and cannot find relief, the thought of suicide will be appealing. All intelligent people think of suicide at one time or another. Most suicides are older people. If you are old, poor, ...

Re: Consciousness and awareness terminology
Sky walker: When I am mindful, when I am looking at that which is aware, that is something very specific. What is it that I am speaking of? Consciousness or awareness or both? If you can see something very specific, you haven't seen enough. True! Remember that my words fall short. yes, there is not...

Re: Another look at the solar system
Many planets in our solar system have no solidness in them, so where would be the surface? Jupiter and Neptune, maybe Uranus and Saturn, are gaseous planets. Anyway... carry on.

Re: Information about Bon Religion.
So is Bon a type of Buddhism? I think I read in another thread that you said that Bon is actually Tibetan Buddhism while vajrayana is Indian Buddhism. However, on wikipedia it says that Bon is a branch of Vajrayana. I had always thought that Bon wasn't related to Buddhism. Or Buddhism regarding Shak...

Re: Consciousness and awareness terminology
But, fundamentally, this process of turning back and looking your own mind, investigating "What is mind?," then simply resting in what you find, is an incredibly profound practice. Instead of waiting for scholar to give a technical answer-- you can find the answer your self. As soon as wo...

Re: Another look at the solar system
Skywalker, if Earth looked all-blue from a distance, would that mean that the entire surface of the Earth is actually blue? The surface of the Earth is the outer limit of its atmosphere. Just because air is subtler than earth and water does not mean it isn't part of the planet. The Sun cannot have ...

Re: Can someone definitively explain to me the differences...?
I have always heard that samadhi is total absorbtion. Like concentration, but just total relaxed one-pointed concentration with no wavering at all, total stability in concentration becomes absorbtion aka samadhi. Others have given you answers. I am not knowledgeable in Zen, I am more of a Dzogchen k...

Re: Questions regardin God and Nirvana
I have no idea what Nirvana is. Is it just another word for enlightenment? Enlightenment cannot be called God, one might be able to say it is the direct knowledge of God. But what is God? If you are talking about a creator man with a beard named JHVH or Jehovah then no, they cannot be the same. But ...

Re: Consciousness and awareness terminology
There are many different ways the two are presented in literature, and many different ways what is presented can be interpreted. Either can appear to be a Chrystal Ball one looks in to see whatever one wants... :namaste: :namaste: That is the problem! Is there agreement on this among Buddhists? :sh...

Re: Why did you choose Buddhism?
I have not chosen Buddhism, I haven't chose anything. I don't belong to Buddhism. I am my own captain and honor the truth anywhere I see it. The thing is, is that Buddhism has so much truth in it. It even teaches to be a light unto yourself and only accept the teachings if they make sense to you and...

I went to the ask yoda web site and asked yoda "Is there a difference between consciousness and awareness?" and he replied "Yes? No? These are only illusions in what we call 'life'. "

Consciousness and awareness terminology
Sometimes people speak as if consciousness and awareness are two things, sometimes spoken of as if they are the same thing. Sometimes they say that there is no consciousness, or that consciousness is an illusion. Somebody said that consciousness doesn't exist because there is nobody to be conscious ...

Re: What is knowing?
Knowing is knowing the nature of the self, which is realized to be the nature of all things. There is no object of knowing, ie. knowing "this" or "that". But it is knowing without a doubt, all illusions cleared, only clarity, emptiness, bliss. All doubts, all seeking, all questio...

Bhumis in Dzogchen? ... does he "really" talks about Dzogchen? Of course he talks about Dzogchen. There are 16 bhumis in Dzogchen, defined in the Rig-pa rang-shar and elsewhere (Longchenpa, etc.). Sorry, I am just a humble fool regarding philosophy, but I heard otherwise from a student of...

Re: Hello, new one here from Jefferson State, Southern Oregon
Ashland's a great town. Many opportunities for Dharma practice there, pleasant weather, good food, culture. Klamath Falls has... insects. And a nice view of Mt Shasta some days. Many opportunities for the Dharma practice here, agreed! And even for wandering Yogis. But the wandering Yogis have been ...

I support you. I am glad for you. You are right that there is no difference whether you stay or go. You don't need anybody's permission if your mind is made up and you are called to it. If you would regret not doing it, then you should do it. Regrets hold you back. The life unlived is what binds us....

Re: Illumination of the mind in Dzogchen practice?...
What I love about Dzogchen is that it goes right to the heart of the matter without all those transformation practices. In this way it is soooo common sense that one doesn't have to have religious beliefs, one doesn't have to be Buddhist, one doesn't have to suspend any disbelief in gods, etc. Just ...
