I don't know if you're only looking for Buddhist texts, or if this author has already been mentioned, but:

Edit: I don't know why the link isn't showing up. Let me try this.

Re: Guru yoga with Samantabhadra?

Thanks, both of you!

It is said that GR is compelled to offer blessings when we visualize him and beseech him. Any reason this wouldn't be true for Samantabhadra as well?

Guru yoga with Samantabhadra?

In Nyingma, of course Guru Rinpoche is most often used for GY. Have you heard of anyone using Samantabhadra directly? Perhaps the Aspiration Prayer of Samantabhadra could be considered basically that.

Re: Mahamudra & Dzogchen - The differences

la bzla ba , it means "to transcend." This is merely a similarity in name, i.e. thod rgal as skipping stages. In actuality however, the concept of la bzla ba also exists in Dzogchen, but it has a different usage, while meaning "to transcend". I had a brief conversation about thi...

Re: Daniel P Brown - Pointing Out Way?

My wife, her brother, and I just returned from a retreat given by Dan-la. He asks his students not to advertise, so I will refrain from doing so. That said, if you have found yourself considering it, stop wondering and just go. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Glad to hear it. "Offensive" is the wrong word. People may not appreciate him describing esoteric practices in some detail so publicly.

Re: Daniel P Brown - Pointing Out Way?

I just found this gem of an interview with Daniel Brown from last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0swudgvmBbk When I say "gem," I mean it. I've never heard such a complete and detailed breakdown of the path anywhere. Some may even find it offensive how much detail he goes into about ...

Re: Daniel P Brown - Pointing Out Way?

Thought I'd ping this thread to see if there are any more folks with experiences to share. I have a family member who's interested. Just wanted to say that my family member attended his most recent retreat. Said relative has been on a couple vipassana retreats as well as other spiritual expeditions...

Re: Amazon links are bugged

There is this problem, where Amazon links turn invisible: http://www.amazon.com/Miphams-Beacon-Certainty-Illuminating-Perfection/dp/0861711572 The above link will now not show in this post (and is replaced by a lot of space - it is still in the post but you have to quote my post to see it). Re: What Shamatha tradition best prepares one for Dzogchen?

This passage from Mingyur Rinpoche might be illuminating. In the instructions of the Mahamudra system, the disciple is taught shamatha without reference point. ... There is a specific instruction that goes with this style of practice. It is called “the three of abiding, moving, and knowing”. ... If ...

Not recently. I did many times when younger, and discussed my experiences with my guru. This forum seems like the wrong place to share anything about those conversations.

Re: Dzogchen and psychedelics?

I regret having created this thread. It was meant only to find out the name of the teacher mentioned. But while I'm here, I might as well clear up some apparent misconceptions. There is a reasonable amount of research to show that very low dosages of certain psychedelics have effects on the brain th...

Is it possible to keep this thread about only the question in the OP? This forum really doesn't need another psychedelics debate thread.

Dzogchen and psychedelics?

No, this is not another thread about whether psychedelics are good or bad. In a recent Lion's Roar piece , they mentioned: And last year, a prominent Vajrayana teacher convened a gathering in Portland called “Dzogchen and Psychedelics” to explore whether psychotropics could play a role in sadhana pr...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

All I know is this: when you tell a naive student that s/he is loved unconditionally by a force that transcends space and time, and you send them looking back in the "I" direction, sometimes they end up in a vicinity that makes it much easier to guide them. Sure, some will fall into eterna...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

Does this then mean there are countless gods, as the individual natures of countless sentient being's minds, that do not actually create anything? That would be the consequence. Why call it a god at that point? I don't really know. I have my guesses but don't intend to pollute this forum with them....

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

How a teacher in any serious capacity can then say that one's view of Vedanta and Dzogchen are interchangeable is concerning to say the least. I'm not sure he was saying that the views are interchangeable. My interpretation is that if one has a strong intuition or affinity for the "God" p...
