Re: Are samsara and nirvana two sides of the same hand
As mentioned, the Nirvana being referred to there is not the full enlightenment which is the goal of the Mahayana, so-called ‘ non abiding Nirvana ’. So, when a Tibetan teacher frames it this way, they are usually referencing the non-differentiation in that context, here’s a brief mention: https://...

Re: Does Karma explain everything.
AFAIK all Mahayana asserts that karmic fruits can be "lessened" through practice to some degree, but not "escaped" . And for the content of the post, really..seriously, all Buddhist teachings teach the avoidance of evil deeds, obviously. An interesting piece of text under AN 3.9...

Re: What's in simple, brief explanation, emptiness?
I still don't quite know what is meant by emptiness in Buddhism. I would ask people on this forum to try and explain it briefly and simply , if possible. If not possible, then go into more detail and please use any examples, again if possible. No matter how much words / text / books one reads, it w...

An 10.95: .....the Tathagata isn't concerned with whether all the cosmos or half of it or a third of it will be led to release by means of that [Dhamma]. But he does know this: 'All those who have been led, are being led, or will be led [to release] from the cosmos have done so, are doing so, or wil...

To know that one is dreaming is by surpassing the dream itself.....by waking up. Only then, one will realise that one was always in a dream.

Re: What kind of mind do Buddhas have
My first initial issue is the title of the thread itself. What kind of mind do Buddhas have . It is assuming that the Buddha has a mind.....this is created by the "mind" of the person asking.....by using the words "do" and "have". I think this would be our first problem...

Re: Not Everything is Impermanent
To be able to get ride of "not knowing" you would have to know something. But no matter how hard you try, you will not find even one thing that you know for sure. Everything hang on uncertainty. This is very easy to prove, by pointing out the paradox of knowing. We know causality, and int...

Re: Not Everything is Impermanent
All I know is that the only thing that does not change is not knowing. Are you sure?.....as "not knowing" depends on something else.....who/what is it that not knows and what if it does not seek to know?.....then "not knowing" doesn't even exist at all.....so therefore, it can c...

So, you agree that "real" is just an agreement? Only if there is an agreement.....even if there is an agreement, it has limitations bound by language itself. Language cannot be that which it points to, but it can describe it. So, we have an object and its description. Real thing and a poi...

Re: Possessions, lifestyle: what should I give up?
I look forward to this attitude some day, just figuring out how to get there... okay, so moving the 'things in this room' to another place (charity shop, other people's rooms), you don't think this might help break down the attachment to possessions and fabrication of "I/self"? Saying and...
