Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

it doesnt have to be called 'Buddhism'. thats just a word, come on... 2600 Years (arguably many more if we believe the words of the Buddha) of culture, philosophy, truth seeking, mediation and recorded experiences of such is "just a word"? Granted Buddhism can (and should) mean different t...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

You don't see dualism when someone posits a really existing reality outside of conventional reality that they define with terms like "one", or "being"? It might as well be flesh and spirit, it definitely seems like more dualistic language to me. who is saying it is outside of co...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

When someone says something like "this is YOU, but this isn't" that is the same thing as asserting a real, existing self, it's just a different self than the conventional one. It sounds to me like that is a part of his teachings..that this"now" is actually "you" - this...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

I watched some of the video, thanks for posting it. It's hard because his terminology is so different. Things like using one of the five aggregates to describe this ultimate state..I know they are just words of course, but the vocabulary differences are striking, and should not be ignored I think. ...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

Right, and i'm asking who you think 'isn't doing what the Buddha taught'. That is absolutely incorrect about The Buddha not caring about Buddhism, he established a Sangha, a doctrine and discipline..what makes you think he didn't "care about Buddhism" and where do you get that idea? it ce...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

Just looking inward doesn't put something in line with The Buddhas teaching, if it did, nearly every Dharmic religion or form of mysticism focused on liberation would be Buddhism, but we can see they aren't, and have a wide range of views. Its also possible that jesus teachings and others have been...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

I think he was asking why you, martin123, need to be a Buddhist. To which you will reply: I don't need to be a Buddhist. To which the next question will be: then why are you a Buddhist? To which you will answer: I never said I was a Buddhist. To which the question will arise: Then why are you on a ...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

It was a cynical reference to Jesus, in the light of what Jikan wrote about, "other writers in the "spirituality" section such as Ken Wilber, Marc Gafni, Andrew Cohen, &c." It seems to me the difference is not necessarily whether their ideas are consistent with Buddhadharma ...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

I think Tolle has had some genuine realization and he want others to feel the freedom he feels, fair enough, maybe he does, I have no way to verify this or not. nothing wrong with that. Didn't say there was. its not his fault he he doesnt belong to a lineage. I didn't say it was. BUT, actually, he ...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

The Buddhas teachings were not meant to be "owned" by one religious group, as I've stated Sidarth Gotama was not a Buddhist, he was just a man who rediscovered this truth. Hmmm.. so did Eckhart, maybe he's a living Bud... Oh, by the way, to qualify as a Buddha of this world system you hav...

Re: Eckhart Tolle on christmas

Yeah but does anyone even care if he is a Buddhist or not? The Pope is Catholic, that's not a problem. Desmond Tutu is an Anglican, that's not a problem. Tolle is not a Buddhist, why is that a problem? A dog is not a horse, does that mean we should shoot all the dogs? These statements were made: &q...
