Re: Unreality of Thoughts
Or "where" the thoughts arise/subside, to be that and not the thoughts. Obviously. The question is, is there such a thing? Is there a Master creator of thoughts? "Someone who seeks the Way doesn’t look beyond himself. He knows that the mind is the Way. But when he finds the mind, he ...

That is why I wrote:"So, there is no master, only a toolset that is perpetuating itself in chase of more useful views."muni wrote:Then that one is another thought who takes decision.Master is the one who decides whether thoughts are useful on useless.
No independent self, in other words.

Re: Unreality of Thoughts
It's not about useful and useless. Thoughts are a tool that become the master. Tools are by definition useful. If you stop perceiving me as someone who is only trying to show his patronizing superiority, then you will see, that I am trying to help. Who is the master of thoughts? Which is the host a...

Re: Unreality of Thoughts
I think that we all are perfectly aware of the fact that phenomena that we experience are not permanent. To believe that there is anything enduring from one moment to the next, that is the belief in true existence, in permanence. Take this very post, divide your time into how many moments you want,...

Re: Unreality of Thoughts
Realising the unreality of thoughts, or I would say 'putting down thoughts' is avoiding picking and choosing, no? It is not possible as long as we see thinking as something useful. There is nothing that can be done. Thinking is still going to happen, but thoughts will just not be invested in, nor c...

Re: Unreality of Thoughts
It's easy to say, but what does it actually mean that something "don't truly exist" ? That it seems reliable only as long as one does not look into it. True existence is something permanent, something one can attach to, identify with, possess. It means a thought stays for ever as it is. H...

Re: Enlightenment
Do you see clearly in your dreams? I can only guess what you mean by this question. My actions in my dreams are unconscious, so I can say that they are contaminated by delusion. Even in my daily life, actions triggered below the threshold of my awareness are stuffed with intentions. When I notice s...

Re: Enlightenment
Are you certain of yourself what you know? Belief works for me. I define certainty as "no doubt". I don't doubt what I know, and I am not looking for any knowledge. What do you mean by belief here? What does it mean that it works for you? You are saying if there is nothing to be done by m...

Re: Enlightenment
I cannot be certain of what I know. Then how come you say I know everything that I know? Uncertainty is a specific form of knowing which takes knowing as its object. There is no free floating knowing and uncertainty that we happen to come across. Both knowledge and uncertainty is "yours"....

Re: Enlightenment
But I don't know why my certain dreams are very odd. Is, this knowledge of odd nature of your dreams, inherently existent somewhere in your dreams? Or is it something applied by you, developed from what you already know about reality? What gives your courage? I have not overcome my fear. Because yo...

Re: Enlightenment
It is true then I rely on knowing. What do I really know? You know... everything that you know. Do you know something that you don't know? Maybe I misread you since you spoke of relying on knowledge. Then you said knowledge needs to be taken out of the equation. How can you do both? Or can ...

Re: Enlightenment
So you are presenting a problem that has no solution. There is no ultimate solution in the sphere of knowing. I propose belief because I don't know; I don't know myself. But it is obvious for you, that you rely on knowing, isn't it? Why do you rely on knowing, when you admit yourself, that you don'...

Re: Enlightenment
Change happens regardless of knowing the consequences or not. It always was and will be like that. The problem lies in resistance to this change. This stress is the mother of suffering. How much do we know ourselves to make definite declarations? This doubt that you are presenting here, is precisel...

Re: Enlightenment
Personally, I don't take such contentious debates about the nature of enlightenment, Nibbana, self vs. not-self, ultimate reality, etc. too seriously. It's just drawing up more maps. Yes, what I wanted to point out is the situation where we have the map that we believe is true, but we are not able ...

Re: Enlightenment
But things don't work that way. Yes, of course they don't. Still we are not giving up in our attempts to know it... This is, in my opinion, the main blocker. We are not able to know it, and we are not able to accept the change without knowing the consequences. In other words, it's not that we are n...
