Re: White Dzambala

I feel that the White Dzambala practice is best suited to the superstitious and gullible fools who aim for a rebirth as a pig.

Re: Equanimity

I feel that one ought to practice equanimity in life and actions. While developing elaborate and vivid hallucinations is certainly fun it is more beneficial to realize the practice than just fantasize about it. ...Reciting ten malas of six-syllable mantra and three times the heart sutra daily (takin...

Re: Is spiritual progress worth it?

I got the impression from your writing that you feel that you haven't achieved the kind of progress that you have desired. I got the sense that maybe it would be best to take it easy for awhile. Just to try and keep the 5 precepts or 4, if you really like to have a drink every now and then. ..Chill....

Nah, you'll become a neurotic insomniac. Better to have a good lot's of good rest, think that as an offering to the Buddha.

Re: Whatever happened to the wicked dwarf?

No mention of a wicked dwarf, but the story is the same: "And the robber died to be reborn in a world of paradise." (The Skill in Means Sutra, p. 74) The idea behind being that the Boddhisattva kills the evil being he takes it's karmic burden upon himself willingly entering the hell realm...

Re: no hair cutting days?

I'm sorry if this seems silly, or is in the wrong section... I noticed that I have made an appointment for a haircut on a no hair cutting day according to the fpmt calendar. It would be difficult for me to reschedule, as well as inconvenient for the stylist. So my question is... how seriously does ...

Re: Whatever happened to the wicked dwarf?

Thank you most kindly. I addressed this issue to Venerable Geshe Thupten Kunkhen and he didn't know either... Or he did, but thought that I just wasn't ready to handle the truth. They do that sometimes.

But, yeah, he could be a previous incarnation of one of the seven dwarfs.

Re: Chod empowerments

Hello all, I am rather new to chod and recently received a chod empowerment in Vermont with Lamchen Gyalpo Rinpoche. Without going into detail, I will say that this was a very extensive and profound empowerment to a practice that combines the lineages of Machig with the terma revalations of the Dri...

Whatever happened to the wicked dwarf?

One of the popular stories about Shakyamuni Buddha's previous lives is one where Buddha as a captain of a ship kills a wicked black dwarf -as the character is known in Tibet. I assume that the story is familiar to all. I am curious about what became of the evil black dwarf after the captain (a Bodhi...

Re: The ego and self-esteem

In fighting the ego, certain things come up, and certain things are let go. We learn equanimity in the process. However, I've noticed something else. I suffer from low self-esteem, and have my whole life. Leaning to deal with certain things in relation to low self-esteem, it seems that some corresp...

How is it that these dieties are perceivable to someone on high bhumi stages but also for the average joe who only has faith in them? This phenomenon occurs in all religions. Re: Gelug View of Dzogchen?

Lamrim is the gradual path, sutrayana-practice. Mahamudra is tantrayana-practice. Gelug-practitioners of highest-scope enter the Tantrayana- or Vajrayana-vehicle after the completion of Lamrim and Ngöndro. Once entering the Vajrayana the Gelug continues the Mahayana, rather than shifting from Mahaya...

Re: How long for actual Meditation...?

Hmm, see I cannot help but think that there is no substitue for silent meditation (for want of a better description). Re: Impermanence

I feel that the positive thing coming out of impermanence is that Samsara is impermanent. The suffering is only a temporary condition. In the end every sentient being will be liberated. Once all the clouds have dissolved there is only Clear Light. In Lam-Rim impermanence is the beginning, in the mid...

Is it really "happening" to "us" ? Isn't this an illusion ? If this is illusion, so is karma... :namaste: It's is like an illusion, I believe that was what Buddha taught. It is like an illusion because the phenomena does not exist inherently. It is not an illusion, because the p...

Re: What makes one a Mahayanist?

I was thinking earlier, exactly what does one have to accept in order to be a Mahayanist. I feel that as a Mahayana practitioner one needs to accept the mountain of blessings that Buddhas are offering him/her and joyfully and swiftly complete all the paths and bhūmis to gain the full liberation in ...
