Re: Shingon: the Tibetan and Nichiren connection?
A mandala or a gohonzon for Buddhists must be like an icon or a pieta for Catholics? Yep, same general idea. Focus for 'faith'. Some Buddhist paths reckon that there's some sort of 'magic woo' attached to mandalas / gohonzon. you tend not to get that with the Catholic or Orthodox these days but, in...

Re: How Tibetans really feel about the occupation
That's non different in Tibet except that for some reason Tibetan Buddhism is quite the fashion right now with affluent folks. The situation on the ground in Tibet is very serious and not this Disney land of religious freedom and happiness you want to paint. With all due respect. What we hear on DW...

It was tough for all religious during the Cultural Revolution. That's history. Nowadays religion is flourishing in China and money is pouring in to rebuild Buddhist and Daoist concerns. Re: How Tibetans really feel about the occupation
With respect to the Tibetan question, you most certainly are pro-Chinese. Today I was in a Tibetan library here in Kathmandu searching for a certain Tibetan text (a pecha). There were a number of boxes piled up on the floor full of Tibetan texts. I looked at them and noted the lettering on the boxe...

There's a very generous Foreword overview of Swanson's 'three truths' via 'Look Inside' at the bottom of this page... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Foundations-Tien-Tai-Philosophy-Flowering/dp/0895819198/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1404134386&sr=8-4&keywords=Paul+Swanson" onclick="window....

Re: China expands new measures to directly control Tibetan m
Completely agree.
It's a Tibetan/ Chinese issue and one that has been rumbling away for years.
Nothin any of us say or post here will make a ha'porth of difference beyond our own egos.
Had my say now so no more fuel for anyone's fire from me here.
Appreciate the response.

Re: China expands new measures to directly control Tibetan m
Seems to me as an infrequent visitor to these lofty realms of DW that you have several sorts of western Buddhists on here and maybe one or two ethnic ones but no more than a few. converts are always the most zealous. on the one hand there's a bunch of Lisa Simpson type Tibet boosters. Save the Lamas...
