Re: Mingyur Rinpoche Goes into retreat
Mingyur Rinpoche visited Korea not long before he went into retreat; and at the end of his arduous schedule here, the last night before he left, he gave me an hour to interview him on video. It was just a generic interview intended for a broad audience, and he was tired, had to be, but he was very g...

Re: Tradition in the West
To me, Buddhism is not about Culture, though Culture tries endlessly to make it be. I think Ponlop Rinpoche hit the nail on the head: "..my various experiences have led me to see the almost blinding influence of culture in our lives and thus the importance of seeing beyond culture altogether.&q...

Re: Haven't Been Meditating: Advice?
Hi Padme Just wanted to say hang in there. One suggestion: you could go through your pre meditation ritual--every day. Basically, just get into the posture you use --every day, without missing. Then when you are completely ready to meditate, get up and go about your daily business. There's something...

Re: See Nature, Become Buddha - Can You?
See Nature, Become Buddha- Can You? Simple and straightforward. This is all there is to seeing nature. By attaining it buddhahood is at hand. So here are two questions to discuss: 1. What hinders one from realising the nature of mind? 2. What stops one who has seen the nature from completing buddhah...

Re: Scholar Sheds Light on Tripitaka Koreana
Whatever the truth of this particular situation, at root this is the same issue Buddhism faces everywhere: the need of 'Culture' to subsume and sanitize a force that is against the stream. It's the same in my home country, the U.S.

Re: Practice and Faith
[i ]Is there any change in this attitude in the West in recent years? Will it ever change? Or is it important not to mention anything resembling a religion when advertising Zen (Buddhism) to Westerners?[/i] Thanks Astus and Huseng. When Westerners ask me about Zen (Seon) I do avoid Religion, mostly ...

Re: The magic of an incense stick
Thanks for this thread. I hadn't really thought about how I use the incense. It is interesting how things evolve in the course of practice. Until two years ago my wife and I did not have an altar. We had a very small apartment at that time; and I think that I probably had no interest in what I might...

Ok, thanks rt. I will add it to my 'to do' list. Among other things, I am currently reading HHDL's "Essence of the Heart Sutra," which I like quite a bit.

Do you know: Is this the same one that has been on youtube for a while, held at a university in the states? Or something new? (I don't have real player and don't want to add it unless necessary)

Re: Dedication to truth
. This seems a bit different from Buddhism which, although it does understand itself as a path that arrives at the true nature of all things, sees realising the true nature of all things as more of a necessary part of ending suffering than an aim in itself. ..., so I find myself wondering how such ...

Re: Buddhism and Western Culture
Hi thornbush, "Can 'Buddhism' then be without the same trappings of Western mentality and culture? Can the Dharma brethren in the West bring the same Buddha Dharma to the East without Western culture? Is not the 'Buddhism' supra-culture?" Of course, these questions are in process and yet t...

Film: Cherry Blossoms
For those who love movies, I recommend: "Cherry Blossoms," (a subtitled German film). I was going to post a review for reference; but it's often the case with good, insightful films that the reviewers, critics and other experts miss the point. From my searching, that seems to be the case ...
