Re: Ngondro Challenges

This is why I can not recommend enough doing even a short retreat, or a series of short retreats on your ngondro practice. If you can spend 2 or 3 hour sessions of consistent practice continuously, traditional style: wake up at 3am, first session.. take short break for meals, in the afternoon rest ...

Re: Buddhist Universities/Buddhist Studies

Thank you guys! Yes, I'm very excited to start studying. I'll keep you updated. Yes I also pray the political situation doesn't worsen. Awesome. I think Rangjung Yeshe is a good college overall, but it is up to you whether you really get something out of it. I've heard from multiple sources that th...

[...] Jetsunma's [...] did ngundro. I know because I was there. I did ngundro with her, prostrations right alongside her. She wore me into the ground when I was nineteen and she was, I think, forty-ish. I paced her. It was 400-500 at a clip, and she was doing four sessions a day (I don't know if all...

Re: Ngondro Challenges

Challenge is doing the practice. But there will come the time when you need to try to find the answers and keep your practice, ngöndro or other. I may even say that many of those questions you have will be answered exactly by practicing. Practice leads to insight. Insight is experience, direct exper...

Re: Ngondro Challenges

Didn't the Buddha start by asking those questions? "What are we doing here? What are the solutions to birth, old age, sickness and death?" If the Buddha asked these question it seems to me they're important questions for us to ask. It's not like he didn't know the answers. Coincidentally, ...

Re: 21 Homages to Tara for Fukushima

Deff, I have an email about this idea in to Gonpo, one of the heads of our spiritual programs. Haven't heard back yet. I'm not sure if I can squeeze in $250 for pujas in the midst of all the other projects or not. People are going to the Palyul retreat in NYC soon, so I might have better luck when t...

It is right mindfulness and attention that allow us to change our behaviour.
Wow. So logical, but I never really thought about it that way.

Re: Website to help maintain a regular practice

I like the idea of making a commitment and sticking to it. The comment line, I'm not sure the comment line (unlike the rest of it) supports good habits. I don't think it's a good idea to step back and judge one's meditation. Often the days that I think things were going well, I wasn't doing as well ...

Re: Ngondro Challenges

You make me think of a comment my teacher made: "I have a great deal of respect for those who take their time to decide." I think it's better to be stable, stubborn about it, than to get all excited and then -- fwip! -- you're off chasing the next shiny thing. I talked to one of the teache...

Re: Chenrezig, Green Tara Visualization questions

It's wonderful to hear your compassionate motivation in your Chenrezig practice. If you're having trouble visualizing yourself as the deity, maybe visualize Tara or Chenrezig in the space in front. Once you've received the empowerment it might go better. Here is Lama Tharchin Rinpoche on the benefit...
