Some Quotes And An Arrivederci
If the U.K. is able to set up its proposed ‘air corridors’ the other Dr Ellis and myself will be flying out soon to our Rome apartment for the first time this year...Even if this not possible I am going to take a break from the forum, but I thought I would leave some quotations which someone might l...

Re: Statue of Buddha in bedroom
Im talking about the creation of a mindset of shame among non celibates regarding natural and wholesome activities. Which conditioned westerners into body negativity, which they then projected onto other cultures, without nuance or context. The children of those westerners then took those projection...

Re: What deed causes karma to have mental illness?
As someone whose entire working life after qualifying was in the realm of mental health, and who was already a Buddhist before training I don’t think the replies in this thread are at all useful in understanding the nuances and complexities involved. These involve genetic, physiological, social and ...

Those Baptist missionaries to Lhasa, Bhutan and Kalimpong did quite a number.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu
I thought I had asked this a long time ago, but I searched and am thinking that I mis-remembered. Does anyone know if there was any relationship and/or interaction between ChNN and Taoist martial arts teacher Bruce Kumar Frantzis? On the back of two Frantzis’ books there is an endorsement by ChNN. ...

Re: In between Taoism and Buddhism
I know this topic is posted in the Lounge, but it’s in the Lounge of a forum dedicated to Buddhadharma. And it’s a forum that has a TOS which states that DW is not a forum for the discussion of comparative religion. Taoism lacks the essential factors that define Buddhadharma. Therefore discussion o...

Does Taoism teach Dependant Origination?
If not it is not analogous to Buddhadharma. No matter how much the two share certain cultural values methods and aesthetics. (Here’s a clue..it doesn’t).

I have lost count of the number of people who have said that to me. “ Cutting Through” seems to be the catalyst for large numbers of people.

Re: What deed causes karma to have mental illness?
So if I have toothache do you recommend that I read “The Evolution Of The Molar Form In Humanoids “ by Evans-Wilson, where he discusses the need for grinding teeth as the species began to develop cereal crops? Will that help my pain?

CTR
Just for the record and with reference to a necro thread now closed. https://dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=30575 Whatever one might think of CTR, and his merits and demerits have been minutely analysed to the point of tedium, he never claimed to be the first Lama to teach in the West. He ...

Re: tibet dieteis are real or story
Hold on to that. If you don’t have a teacher find one that can help you get to know Tara. Ask Tara to lead you to the right teacher. You can worry about her real nature later.

Re: Genuine advice sought.
I agree that texts alone cannot usually bring teachings alive and sustain that life depending on the working out of karma. But a bona fide teacher IS the teachings and the life in those teachings. I was a pious youth. Suttas and Sutras were my meat and drink. Then I met my teacher. He embodied the t...

Re: What deed causes karma to have mental illness?
It doesn’t work that way. The result of karma is always mixed. It’s seldom one action leading to one result.

Re: Genuine advice sought.
The most compassionate person I have ever met ( and I am NOT comparing myself to him in any respect at all) would have thrown you out of the window of a skyscraper if he knew you would become realised before you hit the ground.
Ruthless compassion. Uncompromising compassion.

Re: Genuine advice sought.
I am not sure why it’s so difficult to understand that every action is karma and will come seek us. Action on the forum is no exception. Which would include making claims to a non existent teacher. Or jumping into threads we don’t understand because we are verbally incontinent. So let’s hope no one...

Re: Genuine advice sought.
I would not relegate experience to some second class status. Official "authority" is no indication of experience or realization. And experience is often taught to be the bridge between intellectual understanding and permanent realization. The thin maroon line separating useful discussion ...

Re: Genuine advice sought.
People have teachers and talk crap and people don't have teachers and talk crap. I think here most people take what's written with a grain of salt, regardless of professed credentials. "Ignore" function is very useful too. If memory serves, you create a thread like this with respect to us...
