Re: Good & affordable ebooks - recommendations

On occasion of Black Friday Week amazon is offering free 3-month audible subscriptions to "selected customers", whatever that means, just check out if it's available to you. And, of course, don't forget to unsubscribe after the third title  I had already shamelessly freeloaded on th...

Re: Which of the following activities do you consider sexual misconduct?

Especially considering that in most Western countries they were the only 2 sexual activities on the list that are also crimes strictly speaking pedophilia is not a sexual activity but a psychiatric disorder - a person suffering from it may or may not engage in pedophile actions. I ckecked it anyway...

Re: "Secular" Phowa/Bardo Instruction?

Not sure if this is the quote you're searching for, I think a similar point has been made by several teachers, here's one example from Chagdud Rinpoche's book "Life in Relation to Death" For example, even if one has not been trained in p’howa, it is certainly beneficial at the time of one’...

Re: Ole Nydahl suffering from advanced Alzheimer's?

That was quite a few years ago. Not a doctor so not sure if he had head trauma that might have contributed. I think he broke a leg or hip at least. But it sounds like those around him should let him retire if this report is true. I have a vague recollection that he had been a boxer when young - tha...

Re: Visa to India, max 180 days at a time?

If you're planning to study at a Buddhist institute or to stay in a monastery, you could contact them and ask if they know of exceptions, like special students' visa. Otherwise the classic solution would be to go on a weekend trip to Kathmandu every 90 days. If that works for you depends of course o...

I saw this a call for help So did I. Actually I pity him. I do not condone rape or sexual abuse, of course. But he's been struggling with his role as Karmapa for quite some time. In an interview with a German radio station in 2013 he had already said "I don't have a feeling that I'm reincarnat...

Re: For myself

It isn’t Covid. I have had enough negative tests to know that. It just happens to be pneumonia that presented exactly like Covid pneumonia. They had me on full Covid precautions for a while, but there was no virus present. It seems to have been triggered by a bad cold. I had no idea a cold could be...

Are there any news about what it is? Do they still think it's covid?

Re: Double lung transplant

If you can breathe through a mask at all, you may want to take a look at washable FFP2 masks from cloth*. There are some products on the market that are certified and fulfill all requirements by German law in areas where FFP2 masks are mandatory. They're much more comfortable to wear and much easier...

Re: Selecting a mala

I try to check my mala's string every now and then and when it starts to wear out I replace it before it breaks. Also, when your mala string breaks often, it is maybe because the drill-holes haven't been filed properly. You can buy special needle-shaped files to soothen the holes of the beads. I don...

I'm using calibre to manage my ebooks. It's a free program that reads and converts all sorts of files. It's primarily for the epub-format, but you can also manage PDF and Word files with it. You can add keywords to all texts and use the sort and filter functions. Using the folder structure of your c...

Re: Issues with ending a friendship

I have found that at some point toxicity is rendered impotent if you know how to address that type of toxicity properly. I have been skillful at not only setting boundaries but conveying them to minds that normally are hard to address. This is not to encourage people suffering others unreasonably. ...

Re: Issues with ending a friendship

Rhetorically speaking does setting boundaries require such finality? Sometimes, yes, unfortunately. Some people simply don't respect other people's boundaries, in which case setting boundaries while maintaining the friendship simply isn't an option. And sadly, also, some people are suffering from a...
